Please indicate why you are applying to Fidelity and in particular your chosen area, exploring why you

feel you are particularly suited to this area. I want to start my career at Fidelity because I think the emphasis it places on diversity would expand my horizon and train my ability to accommodate different viewpoints and produce integrated solutions. I want to work at Equity Research because I am a truth seeker, who enjoys developing an independent view of our world and being constantly challenged to improve my insight. I believe my ambition fits well into your firms investment philosophy and I believe your firm has the relevant resources to help me achieve my goal. I possess excellent communication skills to succeed at Capital Dynamics. During my internship at Minerva Advisors, apart from pitching various investment opportunities, I also hosted and acted as translator during meetings between Western clients and Asian investors. I believe my fluency in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Taiwanese will be instrumental in expanding your client base. Attending your firms presentation by Charles Payne in my business school has reaffirmed my motivation to apply to Equity Research. I am so impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of Mr. Payne towards his areas of interest. I have also learnt from him about the opportunities for analysts to visit organisations to further understand investment opportunities. I am excited about this because I enjoy meeting people from various backgrounds and I will thrive in this environment because I had communicated efficiently with clients when performing due diligence and pitching investment opportunities at Minerva Advisors. I can see that your firm places a great emphasis on the ability of your employees to be entrepreneurial and think strategically. I share this value and during my internship at Barclays Capital, I committed myself fully to deliver an innovative solution to reduce future decommissioning costs for the North Sea operations of a big client. I am also a good fit to your firms culture which commits to continuous self improvement. I have constantly challenged myself to reach new heights, which is testament from my achievements in completing an investment banking internship as an Engineering student, and also stretching myself to skydive from 13,000 feet in the Swiss Alps. My First Class Engineering degree and work experiences have equipped me with the ability to pay great attention to detail. This will allow me to be sensitive to subtle market movements and derive insights which are not immediately obvious. Please record your academic/non-academic/non-work interests, activities and achievements, noting any positions of responsibility held and membership of any clubs/societies. (Please complete in a minimum of 50 words and a maximum of 300 words) I am an avid reader and thinker of Chinese Cultural and Historical Studies. Hence, I am able to contribute unique insights to improve the firms investment strategies in Asia. I am a PADI certified open water scuba diver. I nearly lost my life in one dive when my gas tank was stuck and I could not breathe. This experience has taught me to think calmly and act decisively under intense pressure, which are important traits to acknowledge and respond accordingly to alter my investment hypothesis when unexpected circumstances occur. I still remember my first skydiving experience in the Swiss Alps, where my legs froze when I was standing at the edge of the helicopter. I felt like giving up, but I reassured myself that I can do it and to have faith in my instructor. Skydiving reminds me the amazing power of the mind in overcoming our fears. I was main actor for Imperial College Malaysian Night and student conductor of my high school orchestra. I managed to lead the orchestra to perform in international venues like Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. These experiences have sharpened my leadership and creativity, which are essential in producing breakthrough solutions and thinking out of the box to outperform competitors and the market. I am the only engineering student to be rewarded a scholarship to study MSc Finance at Imperial College Business School.

Please describe a challenging or difficult project you have undertaken. This could be a team or individual project of a personal, work or academic nature. What did you do? What was the outcome? If it was a team project how did you influence others? What have you learnt from this experience? A big client of Barclays Capital was anxious about the operations of its oil platforms in the North Sea, which were approaching the end of their useful lives and would incur high decommissioning costs. Consequently, I was asked by my VP to produce a report on analysing decommissioning obligations in the North Sea. That was my only brief. It was challenging as I had no prior experience and had to complete the project alone. However, the huge amount of trust from the VP and the rare chance to monitor a project as an intern motivated me immensely. I first set out to understand the capital expenditure required to decommission North Sea oil fields in the next 15 to 20 years. After analysing the relevant liabilities, I thought it might be a good idea to identify mid-cap companies that may be interested in acquiring those liabilities. I presented my research based on three different economic scenarios and used a lot of graphics to organise quantitative data comprehensively. I am very proud

of this achievement because the client responded positively to my research. I have learnt how to communicate complex ideas in a comprehensive manner, which is especially important in the finance industry where business depends on client trust, which in turn depends on how well a good idea has been conveyed to the client. During this project, I had the opportunity to liaise with external data providers, which taught me to be resilient and creative in approaching the correct parties to obtain relevant information to back up my ideas. This experience has also allowed me to refine my ability to think independently, which is important in developing my own framework to analyse a problem and combine my ideas to produce an integrated solution.
