HSPA Key features - AMC

Good CQI

Channel Quality Feedback (CQI)

Bad CQI

High Code Effective Rate

Low Code Effective Rate

nUE measures channel quality (SNR or Ec/Nt) and reports to Node B every 2ms or longer time. nNodeB chooses modulation scheme, transport block size and code effective rate based on CQI.
The test UE is cat12, the peak throughput is 1600kbps

Good coverage

Bad coverage

AMC could improve radio bandwidth and fit for high speed radio transmission.

HSPA+R99 R99

Disadvantage
n Spectrum utilization efficiency doesn t reach maximum; n The whole cell capacity doesn t reach maximum; n HSPA users access HSPA cell by DRD, which bring about 200ms access delay; n Inter-freq HSPA handover increases the difficulty of optimization.

Advantage
n No impact on R99 coverage and capacity; n No impact on R99 KPI; n HSPA user can get high experience even in R99 busy time; n High HSPA cell throughput.

Strategy Recommendation for Mature Phase

The new traffic features for this phase is that total UMTS users will growth and proportion of HSPA will increase! Disadvantage
n Investment for HSPA will be increased for HSPA application on two frequency; n HSPA User experience will be affected by R99 user pre-emptying resource; n Load balance configuration will require more experience and optimization; n Complicated and advanced RRM algorithm is required.

Advantage
n Take full advantage of network resource completely including spectrum and power; n The HSPA cell capacity can reach maximum and provide higher capacity; n HSPA KPI will be promoted for accessibility and mobility; n Load reshuffle between two frequency will balance DL load; n Difficulty of optimization will be reduced for service distribution is available.

What is the Point? Initial Phase

Inter-freq Handover is the most difficult for HSPA mobility optimization.
HSPA Handover Type H<->H Soft/Softer HO H<->D Intra-freq HO H<->H Inter-freq HO H<->D Inter-freq HO H<->GPRS Inter-freq HO H<->H intra-freq Hard HO H<->D intra-freq Hard HO

HO Success Ratio

The performance of Intrafreq HSPA service cell change is based on the R99 intra-freq soft/softer handover.

HSPA shall cover hot spot area at initial phase on dedicated carrier, so there is too much inter-freq HSPA handover between hot-spot area and non hot-spot area.

Intra-freq hard handover is not suggested on commercial network.

HSPA and GPRS Handover is applied at the edge of UMTS coverage area.

HSPA Optimization in HO area

Coverage quality of HO area decide the DL throughput for mobile HSPA user.
The higher Load will not impact the pilot pollution but will be deteriorated in coverage quality of handover area.
The poor CQI will be reported if the Ec/Io is very bad, DL throughput is close relative to CQI in HO area, so the optimization for coverage in HO area is the key for mobile HSPA user.

This is the typical example for HSPA throughput optimization in dense urban. The average throughput of Application layer reach to 1.2Mbps.(Cat12 UE)

Question and Answer

What is the feature of HSPA?
AMC, Scheduler, lots of UE category, system resource allocation

What is most important before HSPA planning?

HSPA deployment strategy including coverage target, dedicated carrier, service, etc.

What is the important input for HSPA coverage planning?

Cell edge throughput

What factor will impact HSPA throughput?

Environment condition, HSPA allowed load, CE/Iub resource. Huawei has advanced algorithm to improve the utilization efficiency.

What is highlight of Huawei HSPA CE consume?

High efficient CE for large HSPA throughput, on CE requirement for softer handover, no CE requirement for CCH; CE allocate dynamically for HSUPA; all cell in one NodeB can share CE resource.
