This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the signal of the speed sensor as being not valid.

The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:

Wire 449-BU is shorted. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed: The sensor is not installed correctly. 1

The ECM is faulty. This is unlikely. The sensor has failed. Note: Ensure that CID 0701 FMI 02 for the sensor is active.

Note: Ensure that CID 0701 FMI 02 for the sensor is active.

Note: The circuit for the transmission output speed sensor can also be verified by monitoring the TOS indicator on the monitor display. See System Operation Section, "Sub Mode 6.4 (Display TOS RPM)".

Note: If a diagnostic code for the sensor supply is present "CID 269", correct this diagnostic code prior to troubleshooting CID 0701 FMI 02. The machine must be operating in second gear or higher in order for the ECM to show this diagnostic code as being present. The "SERV CODE" is ON. Ensure that the diagnostic code is on-hold.

As a result of this diagnostic code, the transmission will not shift above first gear and the lockup clutch will fail to engage.

1. CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE SENSOR.

a. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.

b. Disconnect the speed sensor from the machine harness.

c. At the machine harness connector for the sensor, measure the voltage between contact A (wire 709-OR) and contact B (wire J764-BR).

Expected Results: The voltage should measure approximately 10 DCV.

Results:

OK - The voltage is approximately 10 DCV. Proceed to 3.: The voltage should measure approximately 10 DCV. Results : NOT OK - The voltage is

NOT OK - The voltage is not approximately 10 DCV. There is an open in the machine harness or the ECM is faulty. It is unlikely that the ECM is faulty. Proceed to 2.: OK - The voltage is approximately 10 DCV. Proceed to 3. 2. CHECK FOR AN

2. CHECK FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT.

a. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

b. The sensor remains disconnected from the machine harness.

c. Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 and J2 from the ECM.

d. At the machine harness connector for the sensor, install a jumper wire from contact A (wire 709-OR) to frame ground.

e. At the machine harness connector for the sensor, install a jumper wire from contact B (wire J764-BR) to frame ground.

f. At the machine harness connector J1 for the ECM, measure the resistance from contact J2-15 (wire 709-OR-16) to frame ground.

g. At the machine harness connector J1 for the ECM, measure the resistance from contact J1-15 (wire J764-BR) to frame ground.

Expected Results: The resistance measurement should be less than 5000 ohms.

Results:

OK - The resistance measurement is less than 5000 ohms. The harness is correct. The ECM is faulty. It is unlikely that the ECM is faulty. Recheck the status of the diagnostic code. If the diagnostic code remains present, exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing And Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".measurement should be less than 5000 ohms. Results : NOT OK - The resistance that is

NOT OK - The resistance that is measured is not correct. There is an open in the harness. The open is in the circuit with the high resistance measurement. Repair the harness or replace the harness. STOP."Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". 3. CHECK FOR AN OPEN IN THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT. a.

3. CHECK FOR AN OPEN IN THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT.

a. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

b. Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 and J2 from the ECM.

c. At the machine harness connector for the sensor, install a jumper wire from contact C (wire 449-BU) to contact B (wire J764-BR).

d. At the machine harness connector J1 and J2, measure the resistance from contact J2-38 (wire 449-BU) to contact J1-15 (wire J764-BR).

Expected Results: The resistance should measure less than 5000 ohms.

Results:

OK - The resistance measures less than 5000 ohms. Proceed to 4.The resistance should measure less than 5000 ohms. Results : NOT OK - The resistance measures

NOT OK - The resistance measures greater than 5000 ohms. There is an open in the signal circuit. Repair the harness or replace the harness. STOP.- The resistance measures less than 5000 ohms. Proceed to 4. 4. CHECK THE SIGNAL WIRE

4. CHECK THE SIGNAL WIRE FOR SHORTS.

a. The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position.

b. The machine harness connector J1 and J2 remain disconnected.

c. Remove the jumper wire from contact C (wire 449-BU) to contact B (wire J764-BR).

d. At the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors for the ECM, measure the resistance from the signal contact of the sensor J2-38 (wire 449-BU) to all other J1 and J2 contacts.

Expected Results: Each measurement should be greater than 5000 ohms.

Results:

OK - Each resistance measurement measures greater than 5000 ohms. The sensor is faulty. Replace the sensor and verify that the sensor corrected the problem. If the problem persists, exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the problem has not been found, replace the ECM. See Testing And Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".and J2 contacts. Expected Results : Each measurement should be greater than 5000 ohms. Results :
