There has been growing criticisms on the corporation regarding the improper management of the natural resources and

also regarding the environmental deterioration which has immense negative impact on the life on earth in future. As a result there is an increasing pressure on the corporations from the side of the society and the government to strictly abide by the environment standards as a solution to the problem of the global warming. In future it is also believed that there is going to be the increased pressure to handle the responsibilities concerning the acid rain, deforestation, waste disposal and also land degradation on corporations. (Barnett, 200 ! But it is always argued that to what e"tend it is justifiable to hold the corporations or the business to care of the environment and how far it becomes the government concern in loo#ing into the environmental protection. There should be the clear determination of the responsibilities fi"ed on the two (coporations $ governments!and also who should hold the higher responsibility. (Barnett, 20%0!. The business is believed to deteriorate the environment by way of highly consuming the energy resources and also by means of causing the pollution in air, water and land degradation . Increased amount of fossil fuels are used which emits the more of carbon dio"ide and also increases the global warming. &ue to the increased globali'ation and also the competition the business has to produce the goods which are acceptable by the customers and also has to underta#e the practices which will reduce the cost of the production and also increases the returns in the business and also the investors who contribute to the capital of the business. ((almer and )artley, 200*! In way of achieving such primary ob+ectives of growth and survival the business may not be able to #eep up to the e"tent of the environmental responsibilities because the goods which are environmentally friendly may not be always acceptable to the customers and may not always suits to their needs and wants. ,oreover the expenditure on the waste recycling and also on the environmental protection may not be always affordable to the business to fulfill its profit and returns responsibilities to the

sta#eholders. -o it is believed by the business that if the business is going to concentrate more on the environmental problems then growth and profitability will suffer and at they may not be able to support government in monetary terms(by ta"ation!. (.oont' and /eihrich 200 ! 0overnment authorities all over the world are playing the important role to formulate the rules for the businesses to encourage the environmentally friendly practices in terms of the waste recycling, reusing and also in the form of the pollution control measures to be adopted and the businesses are governed on the basis of these laws. But going beyond these regulatory laws and loo#ing into the problem of environmental problems can hinder and affect in long way to the competitiveness of the business. It will then become li#e the main ob+ective of the business is to ta#e care of the environment and not to earn the profit and this profit will come as the secondary and unimportant motive . But to some e"tend it is also critici'ed that these rules are effective only on the paper documents and the authorities are not efficient enough to produce the fruitful results and also to implement the same very effectively. (1ieser, 20%0! The responsibility of the business so far as the abiding by the rules is concerned is primary and also very important to implement. But the government has the active role in formulation and also in implementation of the regulations. Then comes the other important role ahead of the government to ta#e care of the environmental concern at the macro level. ((almer and )artley, 200*! The role of government is more and vast as the business role may be limited to protect at individual level but so far as the government is concerned the responsibility is related to protecting the environment at national level which will come through assuming still higher responsibilities. Example as far as the waste disposal is concerned the business will be concerned with the recycling and reusing the waste but it should be acceptable by the customers and that awareness should be created more and supported more by the government authorities. (Barnett, 20%0!.

The support of business is necessary and government should leave business to concentrate more on its entrepreneurial ob+ectives of profit earning. The responsibility of business should be to abide by the regulations and also support monetarily to government in its social concerns and it can be only if business concentrates more on profitability rather than environment. 2n the other hand it is lies on government part that how effectively it ma#es use of its authorities in formulating and implementing the action in the environmental concern.
