Psychotherapy It is often the first form of treatment for depression during psycho therapy, a person with depression talks

to a licensed and trainer mental health care professional to help him to work through the factors that may be causing depression. Psychotherapy is a personal process of deep listening to, learning from and seeking solutions. How is Psychotherapy useful? Psychotherapy helps people to : 1. Understand behaviour, emotions and ideas that contributes to her depression 2. Help him to re-struct ways of thinking, negatives attitudes and attitudes someone has about himself and ways in which faulty thinking may perpetuate depression. 3. Regain a sense of control and pleasure in life 4. Learning coping techniques and problem solving skills 5. Reduce internal suffering which may occur in the form of problematic behaviours, believes, feelings and somatic responses Psychotherapists understand the patient's needs so as to work collaboratively to explore the issues in dept. Then they formulate a plan of action and make frequent assessments of progress revising treatment as necessary. Group Therapy Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves one or more therapists working with several people at a time. Principles of Group therapy 1. Instillation of hope The group contains members at different stages of treatment process. Seeing people who are coping or recovering gives hope to those at beginning of the treatment process. 2. Universality Being part of a group of people who have same experiences help people see that what they are going through is universal and they are not alone Imparting information Group members are able to help each other by sharing information. Altruism Group members are able to share their strength and help others in the group which boost up their self esteemed and confidence. The correctives recapitulation of primary family group The therapy group is much like a family where each member can explore how childhood experiences contributed to personality and behaviours. They also learn to avoid behaviours that are destructive or unhelpful in real life. Development of socialization techniques The group setting is a great place to practice new behaviours, meaning that it is safe and supportive allowing group members to express without fear or failure.

Imitative behaviour Individuals can model behaviours of other members of the group or imitate behaviour of therapist Interpersonal learning By interacting with other people and receiving feedback from group or therapist, each individual can gain a greater understanding of himself Group cohesiveness This is so as the group is united in a common goal, members gain sense of belonging and acceptance Existential factors While working in a group, it offers support and guidance. Group therapy help members realised that they are responsible for their own lives, actions and choices.

Cognitive behavioural therapy It is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the important role of thinking in how people feel of themselves and what they do - how they think about things going in their lives, their thought, images, beliefs, attitudes.

Later on, the therapists looks at how to change any negative patterns of thinking, behaviour that is causing disturbance so as they can adapt to the world around them

Diversional therapy The primary goal of diversional therapy is to facilitate the process of empowerment and unable the patient to make choices and decisions which maximize his participation in leisure experience that suits his individual needs and wants. How is Diversional therapy useful? 1. Allows freedom of choice 2. Maintain use of visual and and skills 3. Allow patient to work within their own capabilities 4. Give them a purpose and meaning to life through activities and involvement 5. Encourages communication, expression, socialization 6. Enables patient to develop strategies that help with personal care
