Very Few Wells in the Palawan Basin have been dry. Success rates are very high by world standards. The new understanding of the Basin from 3D Seismic has transformed the exploration approach NW PALAWAN BASIN Well Success Breakdown

Over 4,500 square kilometres of 3D data has been acquired recently in the basin. Much of it is available for purchase. This slide shows the Western Geco Survey recorded in 1997-8 (inside the green boundary)

NIDO OILFIELD

Historically the main target in the basin has been the Nido Limestone. This has produced one large discovery, and a few medium size discoveries. The key to success in drilling the lower Miocene limetones is recognition of carbonate buildups, which are areally restricted to the footwall high blocks to the old

rifted graben. Many projects were mis-directed because this understanding was not available from the 2D data. Other targets exist within Miocene clastics, older carbonates, and

The Coron North Prospect is an exploration prospect in the Nido Limestone. It lies on the Malampaya trend and has similar features. It has reserves of between 75 and 100 mmbbls, and oil is expected rather than gas. Water Depth 325 metres, planned total depth 3750 metres.
