1. INTRODUCTION

ES10.004 rev.3

Sheet 3 of 9

Blas load calculation is performed in the worst conservative condition i.e. valve stem horizontal. Calculation is performed in the worst weak point which are the actuator/valve bolts on the valve side of the mounting spool.

2. CALCULATION Actuator model RSOM 4500-125-NS, calculation for the horizontal stem installation:

but applicable also to:

VALVE SPLIT BODY 16" L := 377 mm L1 := 415mm db := 356 mm nb := 8 Ab := 561 mm S y := 723MPa Ar := 1612000mm P := 0.02MPa Fa := P Ar We := 1200kg Bolt verification
2 2

Actuator center gravity distance to the top flange Actuator drag load acting distance to the top valve flange Bolts flange diameter Bolts number Bolt resistent area Bolt material yield Actuator blast area Blast pressure Blast load Actuator weight M30

Conservatively all weight and blast load is acting on the two external bolts only. Bolts preload is not considered in the calculation because will reduce the stress level. Torque effect due to the centre gravity offset is taken by flange friction and is negligible compare to actuator torque. Ft := F a := b := We g L 2 db Fa L1 2 db F a + Ft Ab < Ft = 6.231 10 N F a = 1.879 10 N b = 44.604 MPa S y = 723 MPa
4 3

Weight load effect on bolt Pressure load effect on bolt

Bolts stress value

b = 44.604 MPa

Sheet 5 of 9

Actuator model RJOM 1400-90-BG and 1400-80-BG calculation for horizontal stem installation, the different length doesnt affect the bolts verification (see par. * ):

but applicable also to:

VALVE SPLIT BODY 8" L := 315 mm L1 := 340 mm db := 298 mm nb := 8 Ab := 245 mm S y := 723 MPa Ar := 637200 mm P := 0.02 MPa Fa := P Ar We := 490 kg Bolt verification
2 2

Actuator center gravity distance to the top flange Actuator drag load acting distance to the top flange Bolts flange diameter Bolts number Bolt resistent area Bolt material yield A320 L7 Actuator blast area Blast pressure Blast load Actuator weight M20

Conservatively all weight and blast load is acting on the two external bolts only. Bolts preload is not considered in the calculation because will reduce the stress level. (*) Torque effect due to centre gravity offset is taken by flange friction and is negligible compare to actuator torque We g L 3 Weight load effect on bolt Ft := Ft = 2.54 10 N 2 db F a := b := Fa L1 2 db F a + Ft Ab < F a = 7.27 10 N b = 40.04 MPa S y = 723 MPa
3

Pressure load effect on bolt

Bolts stress value

b = 33.516 MPa

4. CONCLUSION Valve and actuator assembly are suitable to operate with the required blast load.
