ORDINANCES FOR BACHELOR OF EDUCATION


1. An examination for the degree of Bachelor of Education in all written papers shall e held in the month of April or at such other dates ma! e fixed ! the Academic "ouncil. #he examination for Practical$ %&ill in #eaching shall e held in the months of 'a! or at such other dates as ma! e fixed ! the Academic "ouncil. A supplementar! examination shall e held in the month of %eptem er or as fixed ! the Academic "ouncil. #he examination shall e open to candidates who ha(e een declared reappear. ). #he examination shall e open to : (a) An! graduate of this *ni(ersit! or an! other statutor! *ni(ersit!$ who after passing the examination for the Bachelor+s degree in the facult! with ,0- mar&s$ has undergone the course of training for the .egree of Bachelor of Education for one !ear at a college$ admitted to the pri(ileges of the *ni(ersit! for this examination and/ has attended not less than 0,- of the total num er of lectures deli(ered in each paper1su 2ect and 0,- of the periods held in practicals1map wor&$ in each paper1su 2ect during the academic !ear. (#he college shall e re3uired to deli(er at least 0,- of the total num er of lectures prescri ed for each paper1su 2ect). #he shortage in the attendance of lectures ! the candidates will e condoned as per rules made ! the *ni(ersit! from time to time. #he student falling short of re3uired percentage e!ond that in a su 2ect shall not e permitted to appear in the examination. A candidate who ecomes inelligi le in Part 4 for want of minimum attendance stands inelligi le for Part 4i or in part 444 also and (ice-(ersa. Each candidats to ecom eligi le in the *ni(ersit! examinations and will also ha(e to fulfil the following conditions : (i) to 3ualif! in the 5ouse #est securing at least )0 mar&s in each theor! paper of Part 4 (4n case a candidate does ot fulfil this re3uirement $ he will ha(e to re2oin the course as a casual student in the next session to fulfil this re3uirement.) (ii) to attend at least 0, - of the total periods pertaining to 6ames and %ports in part 444$ (iii) to 3ualif! in the internal e(aluation of "ommunit! 7or& securing at least 80- mar&s in Part 444 9: ( ) An! 6raduate who ha(ing ecome eligi le in terms of clause ) (a) does not appeaar int he examinaiton or ha(ing appeared int he examinaiton has failed and is recommended ! the Principal of his college$ pro(ided that he appears in the examination with in a period of three !ears from the date of completion of the course. ;. E(er! candidate shall su mit his application on the prescri ed form through Principal of the college$ admitted to the pri(ileges of the *ni(ersit! for this examination$ he has most recentl! attende$ alongwith a certificate of good moral character. 8 #he amount of admission fe to e paid ! a candidate shall e as prescri ed : (1) <or impro(ement of 'ar&s1 di(ision the fee will e as prescri ed. * A student who is unable to appear in the examination owing to shortage in the prescribed course of lectures in the subject or subjects may be allowed to appear at the following examination, if he, makes up the deficiency in the subject or subjects concerned by attending lectures at a college admitted to the privileges of the Punjabi University.

#he examination shall consist of the three parts as under: Part-4: : #heor! Part-44 : %&ill in #eaching Part-444 : 7or& Experience$ "ommunit! 7or& and 6ames and %ports #he scheme of examination and s!lla us shall e as prescri ed. >. 4nternal assessment mar&s as indicated under the parts concerned shall e recorded ! the Principal of the college on the recommendation of the teacher-incharge during the period of training. #he mar&s thus awarded shall e forwarded ! the Principal to the *ni(erist! office. *ni(ersit! ma! appoint an 4nspector to inspect the record of the internal assessment of the lesson etc. 0. English or Pun2a i shall e the medium of examination except in the case of "lassical and 'odern 4ndian ?anguages in which the medium of examination will e the allied 'odern 4ndian ?anguage for "lassical language and the particular 4ndian language for 'odern 4ndian ?anguage. #he candidates who ha(e not studied the su 2ect of Pun2a i in lower exam. ma! answer 3uestions in 5indi medium. "andidates offering teaching of 4ndian languages (5indi$ Pun2a i and *rdu) in the B.Ed. course shall e allowed to answer their 3uestions in the rele(ant language. "andidates offering teaching of 'usic shall e allowed to answer their 3uestions either in 5indi or Pun2a i or English at their option @uestion paper shall e set oth in English or Pun2a i languages. A. #he num er of mar&s re3uired to pass the examination shall e as under : Part-4 ! #he minimum pass mar&s in each paper will e ;,- and 80- in the aggregate. Pro(ided that where there is practical$ a candidate shall e re3uired to pass in theor! and practical examinations separatel!. Part-44 ! #he minimum pass mar&s for each teaching su 2ect as well as in the aggregate shall e 80-. Part-444 ! #he minimum mar&s for (i) 7or& Experience and (ii) "ommunit! 7or& shall e 80separatel! as well as in the aggregate. 6race mar&s shall e allowed according to 9rdinances relating to +Award of 6race 'ar&s+. B. A candidate who is una le to clear the examination within four consecuti(e chances shall not e allowed to continue his1her studies for the B.Ed. courseC Pro(ided that a candidate who is una le to appear in one or more chances owing to illness will e gi(en next succeeding one or more chances missed ! him1her on application accompanied ! a medical certificate and dul! recommended ! the Principal of the college as per ordinances. 10. A candidate who fails shall e permitted to ta&e the examination in part or parts in which he failsC pro(ided he passes in all the parts within four consecuti(e chances commencing with the first chance

a(ailed of. %uch a candidate shall pa! prescri ed admission fee on each occasion. #his concession shall$ howe(er$ e su 2ect to the following conditions : (i) A candidate who fails in one paper onl! of Part-4 securing atleast 80- mar&s in the aggregate of the remaining papers shall$ if he so desires$ e gi(en exemption from reappearing in such papers ut$ in order to pass the examination$ he shall secure ;,- mar&s in the remaining papers and 80- in aggregate of all the papers of Part-4 ta&en together : Pro(ided that for the purpose of the concession$ he shall e permitted to appear in the supplementar! examination of the same !ear and at the next annual examination in the following !ear on pa!ment of prescri ed admission fee on each occasion. (ii) A candidate who does not o tain 80- mar&s in Part-44 shall e re3uired to appear in Part-44 as a whole. 5owe(er$ he shall e permitted to appear in the supplementar! examination of the same !ear and at the next annual examination in the following !ear on pa!ment of prescri ed admission fee on each occasion. (iii) A candidate who does not o tain 80- mar&s in +7or& Experience+ in Part-444 shall e permitted to appear in the supplementar! examination of the same !ear and the next annual examination in the following !ear on pa!ment of prescri ed admission fee on each occasion. 11. #he successful candidates shall e classified as under : (a) >0 per cent and a o(e$ first di(ision. ( ) ,0 per cent and a o(e$ ut less than >0 per cent$ second di(ision. (c) elow ,0 per cent$ third di(ision. (i) #otal of Part-4 (ii) #otal of Part-44 (iii) #otal of Part-444 #he result pu lished will indicate the di(isions mentioned a o(e and the mar&s o tained ! the candidate on the com ined total of Part-4$ Part-44 and Part-444. #he detailed certificate will indicate mar&s o tained in each of the #heor! papers (Part-4) and the mar&s o tained in Part-44 and Part-444 in (i) and (ii) separatel!. #he merit of a candidate shall e determined on the asis of the total score in Part-4$ Part-44 and Part-444. But the candidates to e on the merit list must secure at least ,,- in each part separatel!. 1). <our wee&s after the termination of the examination or as soon as ma! e the :egistrar shall pu lish a list of the candidates who ha(e passed. 1;. #he mar&s awarded to a candidate in the 4nternal Assessment will e carried forward at his option when he is permitted to reappear in a part or parts in su se3uent examination. #he mar&s o tained ! a candidate in 4nternal Assessment shall e (alid e(en if he remains a sent in the external examination. 18. A person who has alread! passed the examination from a college affiliated to this *ni(ersit! for the degree of Bachelor of Education ma! offer as an additional su 2ect$ a 'ain "raft other than the one in which he has alread! passed. %uch a candidate ma! e admitted to examination on pa!ment of prescri ed admission fee. #he candidate shall ha(e to 2oin a college admitted to the pri(ileges of the *ni(ersit!$ for training in the craft and the college shall suppl! internal assessment award to the *ni(ersit! in accordance with the ordinance laid down for the purpose. (a) "ollege will allow admission in those su 2ects where facilities are a(aila le. 1,. (i) A person who has alread! passed the B.Ed. examination from this *ni(ersit! ma! e allowed to offer as an additional su 2ect an! of the rele(ant su 2ects other than those in which he1she has alread! passed the B.Ed. examination. 4n case of teaching su 2ect such as language$ 'athematics$ %cience or %ocial %tudies the candidate should ha(e alread! passed the graduate1Post-graduate examination with that particular su 2ect as an electi(e su 2ect. 4n addition to the written paper$ the candidate shall undergo practical test in the teaching of the

additional su 2ect ta&en ! him1her and for this he shall complete one month+s school practice under appro(ed super(ision. (ii) 4n the training colleges affiliated to the Pun2a i *ni(ersit!$ Patiala candidates who ha(e passed B.Ed. from this *ni(ersit! can 2oin as casual students. #he rules pertaining to the #eaching %&ill which are applica le for regular students$ who also appl! to those who ta&e an additional teaching su 2ect. #his will include one month+s teaching practice under the super(ision of the training college co(ering demonstration$ o ser(ation and discussion lesson etc. #he re3uired teaching aids pertaining to the additional su 2ect will ha(e to e deposited. (iii) A teacher who has a teaching experience of , !ears in a recognised educational institute and wants to offer a teaching su 2ect as an additional su 2ect$ will e exempted from teaching practice. 5owe(er$ he1she will ha(e to deli(er the re3uired discussion$ lessons and will deposit the rele(ant teaching aids in the teaching institution. #he candidates will deposit fee for one 3uarter and will send his1her admission form and fee for examination through the concerned Principal. (i() #he examination for such candidate shall e held in the month of April or on such other dates as ma! e fixed ! the Academic "ouncil for the Annual Examination. #he amount of admission fee to e paid for appearing in additional su 2ect under this ordinances shall e as prescri ed. (() #he minimum num er of mar&s for passing the additional su 2ect for B.Ed. Examination shall e 80- in #heor! and %&ill in teaching separatel!.
