Ghosh Lineage
Physical culture hatha yoga may have originated from a series of asanas by Yogi Matsyendranath, founder of the Nath cult, around the 10th century AD A single source for !" asanas has yet to be found #he number !" re$resents com$leteness and considered, by some, to be mystical %t is, therefore, entirely $ossible that !" asanas &as sim$ly the universal standard for codifying a credible yoga system

Yogi Matsyendranath is ac'no&ledged as the first human hatha yoga instructor (is chief disci$le, )ora'h Nath, &as guru to Yogi *&atmarama, author of the (atha yoga Prida$i'a The main objective of Hatha yoga is to create an absolute balance of the interacting activities and processes of the physical body, mind and energy. When this balance is created, the impulses generated give a call of awakening to the central force, which is responsible for the evolution of human consciousness. If yoga is not used for this purpose, its true objective is lost.
