The Khutbah of Eed Al-Fitr -I

First Khutbah: Allaahu Akbar (i.e. Allaah is The Greatest) is our symbol in this Eed Allaah is greater than all tyrants Allaahu Akbar and all perfect praise is due to Allaah Who enabled us to fast this month. O Muslims! Allaah Has written Mercy upon Himself. During these days, we Muslims celebrate the festival of Eed Al-Fitr, and every nation has its own festivals. This day is a great one indeed, as it comes after the Muslims have fulfilled their fast for the entire month alongside other great acts of worship. This is a day of joy and happiness for each Muslim to rejoice and make his family, household and other Muslims feel happy, and therefore, Allaah has legislated that the rich and capable spend and pay Zakaatul-Fitr so that the poor will not be deprived from rejoicing and feeling happy as well. O Muslims! The Khutbah of the Eed is a time to remind the people with matters concerning their religion in order for them to benefit from this gathering. Today I will mention some prohibitions that some Muslims commit which Allaah forbade.

Shirk (i.e. associating with Allaah): Abu Hurayrah

said that the Prophet

said: Keep

away from the seven fatalities. It was asked: What are they, O Messenger of Allaah? He replied: Associating anything with Allaah in worship (i.e. committing an act of Shirk), sorcery, killing of one whom Allaah has declared inviolable without a just cause, devouring the property of an orphan, the eating of Ribaa (i.e. usury or interest), fleeing from the battlefield and accusing chaste believing women, who never even think of immorality. [AlBukhaari & Muslim].

The Prophet

said: There are five things that can never be expiated for: Associating

anything with Allaah in worship (i.e., committing an act of Shirk), killing of oneself These matters can only be expiated for with a sincere repentance.

`Abdullaah Ibn `Amr Ibn Al-`Aas

and his father, reported that the Messenger of Allaah

said: It is one of the gravest sins to abuse one's parents. It was asked (by the people): O Messenger of Allaah, can a man abuse his own parents? The Messenger of Allaah said: He abuses the father of somebody who, in return, abuses the former's father; he then abuses the mother of somebody who, in return, abuses his mother. [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]. Killing a soul without due right: This is another sin that is grave in the scale of Allaah. Ibn `Abbaas reported: The Messenger of Allaah said: The three most hated people to

Allaah are: One causing disruption and corruption within the Sacred Boundaries (of Makkah), and one who wishes to introduce into Islam the ways of the times of ignorance, and one who seeks the blood of another without any reason except that he wishes to spill it.[Al-Bukhaari].

Abu Bakrah Ath-Thaqafi

reported that the Messenger of Allaah

said: When two

Muslims are engaged in a combat against each other with their swords and one is killed, both are doomed to Hell. I said: "O Messenger of Allaah! As to the one who kills, it is understandable, but why the slain one?" He [Al-Bukhaari & Muslim]. replied: He was eager to kill his opponent.

The Prophet

also said: The most tormented people on the Day of Resurrection are; a

man who killed a Prophet or was killed by a Prophet; a man who misguides people (due to ruling) without knowledge and a depicter (i.e. an image maker)

Ibn Mas`ood

reported that the Prophet

said: The first matter concerning which

people will be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be the matter of blood. [Al-Bukhaari & Muslim]

The Prophet

further said: If the inhabitants of the Heavens and the earth were to join in

spilling the blood of one believer, then Allaah would throw them into Hellfire on their faces

Committing suicide:The Messenger of Allaah

said: He who kills himself with steal rod,

will be tormented with it eternally on the Day of Resurrection. He who kills himself by
2

consuming a poison, will consume it eternally in Hellfire. [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]. This applies to those who consume drugs and needles, some of whom are found dead in bathrooms.

Deeds that make a person deserving of the curse of Allaah: The Messenger of Allaah mentioned many deeds that make the one who commits them deserving of the curse of Allaah, as when he said: Cursed is the one who badmouths his father; Cursed is the one who badmouths his mother; Cursed is the one who slaughters for other than Allaah; Cursed is the one who goes to fortunetellers and soothsayers; Cursed is the one who misleads a blind person from the correct way; Cursed is the one who commits the evil of the people of (prophet) Lout (i.e. sodomy).

Consuming Ribaa (interest or usury): The Messenger of Allaah

said: When fornication,

adultery and Ribaa appear in a town, then they make themselves deserving of the torment of Allaah The Messenger of Allaah also said: Ribaa is seventy two levels, the lowest of

which is as evil as a person having an illicit sexual act with his mother Let those who have their money in accounts that draw interest beware this is your similitude. Jaabir narrated that: The Messenger of Allaah cursed the one who consumes Ribaa, the one

who gives it to others, the one who writes it down and the one who witnesses its transaction. He said: They are all the same (in the sin). [Muslim].

Three types of people to whom Allaah will not speak (on the Day of Judgment):Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allaah said: There are three (types of)

people to whom Allaah will not speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, nor look at them, and they will have a painful punishment. These are: An aged man who commits illicit sexual acts, a ruler who lies, and a proud poor person. [Muslim].

Abu Hurayrah

said that the Messenger of Allaah

said: There are three (types of)

people with whom Allaah will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection nor purify them (from their sins) and there will be a painful chastisement for them: A person who has spare water in a desert and he refuses to give it to the traveler; a person who sells a commodity to another person after the afternoon prayer and swears by Allaah that he has bought it at
3

such and such price, and the buyer pays him accordingly though in reality it was not true; and a person who pledges allegiance to an Imaam (leader) just for some worldly benefit, and then if the Imaam bestows on him (something out of that) he fulfills his allegiance, and if he does not give him, he does not fulfill it. [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim].

Abu Tharr

reported: I heard the Prophet

saying: There are three to whom Allaah

will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection nor will look at them nor purify them (i.e. of their sins), and they will be severely tormented. When he repeated this (statement) thrice, I said: "They are doomed and destroyed! (But) who are they, O Messenger of Allaah ?'' He

said: One whose lower garment trails, one who boasts of kindness shown to another; and one who promotes sale of his business by taking false oaths. [Muslim].

The Khutbah of 'Eed Al-Fitr -II

In this part we will mention some more prohibitions that some Muslims commit which Allaah forbade. Lying on the Prophet :`Abdullaah Ibn `Amr Ibn Al-`Aas reported that the Prophet

said: Convey from me even an verse of the Qur'aan; relate traditions from the Children of Israel, and there is no restriction on that; but he who deliberately forges a lie against me let him have his abode in the Hell. [Al-Bukhaari]. This is a warning for those people who sit in gatherings and convey and relate narrations which are not authentic or they are unaware of their authenticity.

False oaths: Abdullaah Ibn `Amr Ibn Al-`Aas

reported that the Prophet

said: (Of the)

major sins are: to ascribe partners to Allaah, disobey parents, murder someone, and to take a false oath (intentionally). [Al-Bukhaari].

Hidden Shirk:The Prophet

said: should I not tell of that which I fear on you more than

Ad-Dajjaal (i.e. the antichrist)? It is Hidden Shirk, where a man stands up to pray, then he starts to beautify his prayer (i.e. improve it) when he notices that another man is watching him[Al-Bukhaari].

The Prophet

said teaching the companions what to say when they felt such Shirk

creeping into their hearts: say: `Allaahumma Innee Aoothu Bika An Oshrika Bika Wa Anaa
4

Alam Wa Astaghfiruka Limaa Laa Alam` (O Allaah, I take refuge in You lest I should commit Shirk knowingly and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do unknowingly)

Transgressing the limits of Allaah in secret: The Prophet

said: I know a type of people

from my nation who will come on the Day of Judgment having rewards as huge (in size) as the mountains of Tuhaamah, but Allaah will make them as dust dispersed (i.e. worthless). These are your brothers (i.e. in faith) and they pray at night (i.e. the optional night prayer) as you do, but they are a people whom when alone, they transgress the limits of Allaah Many people nowadays are like this. They travel abroad just so that they can commit evil acts like adultery or to consume intoxicants and so on.

Going to fortunetellers and soothsayer: Safiyyah, the daughter of Abu `Ubayd on the authority of some of the wives of the Prophet

narrated

who said: He who goes to one

who claims to tell about matters of the Unseen and believes in him, his prayers will not be accepted for forty days. [Muslim]. He and she are obliged to pray because otherwise they would become disbelievers, yet their prayers would not be accepted by Allaah and they would not be rewarded for them.

The Prophet

said: Whoever goes to a fortune-teller or a soothsayer and believes him in

what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.[Ahmad].

Abandoning changing the evil:Abu Bakr

reported: I have heard the Messenger of Allaah

saying: When people see an oppressor but do not prevent him from (doing evil), it is likely that Allaah will punish them all. [Abu Daawood and At-Tirmithi].

Huthayfah

reported that the Prophet

said: By Him in Whose Hand my life is, you

either enjoin good and forbid evil, or Allaah will certainly soon send His punishment to you. Then you will supplicate Him and it will not be accepted. [At-Tirmithi].

Oppressing others:Jaabir Ibn `Abdullaah

reported that the Messenger of Allaah

said:

Beware of injustice, for oppression will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection [Muslim]

The Prophet of Allaah

also said: There are three persons whose supplications are never

rejected: The just leader, the fasting person when he breaks his fast and the oppressed when he supplicates and whose supplication is raised above the clouds and the gates of heaven are opened for it and Allaah will say, By My Glory! I shall assist you even if it is after a while.[At-Tirmithi].

Abu Moosaa

reported that the Messenger of Allaah

said: Verily, Allaah gives respite

to the oppressor. But when He seizes him, He does not let him escape [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim].

Abu Hurayrah

reported that the Prophet

said: He who has done a wrong affecting

his brother's honor or anything else, let him ask his forgiveness today before the time (i.e., the Day of Resurrection) when he will have neither a Deenaar nor a Dirham. If he has done some good deeds, a portion equal to his wrong doings will be subtracted from them; but if he has no good deeds, he will be burdened with the evil deeds of the one he had wronged in the same proportion. [Al-Bukhaari].

Dealing with bribes:The Prophet

said: May Allaah curse the one who bribes and the one

who takes bribes. [Ahmad and Abu Daawood].

Residing in the lands of the disbelievers: The Prophet amongst the disbelievers.

: I am free from the one who lives

Abandoning the prayer:Abu Hurayrah

reported that the Messenger of Allaah

said:

The first of man's deeds for which he will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection will be the prayer. If it is found to be perfect, he will be safe and successful; but if it is incomplete, he will be unfortunate and a loser. If any shortcoming is found in the obligatory prayer, the Glorious and Exalted Lord will command to see whether His slave has offered any voluntary prayer so that the obligatory prayer may be made up by it. Then the rest of his actions will be treated in the same manner.[At-Tirmithi].

Buraydah

reported that the Messenger of Allaah

said: That which differentiates us

from the disbelievers and hypocrites is our performance of the prayer. He who abandons it, becomes a disbeliever. [At-Tirmithi].
6

Abu Ad-Dardaa'

reported: I heard the Messenger of Allaah

saying: If three men in a

village or in the desert, make no arrangement for prayer in congregation, Satan must have certainly overcome them. So observe prayer in congregation, for the wolf eats up a solitary sheep that stays far from the flock. [Abu Daawood].

Refraining from paying the due Zakaah:The Messenger of Allaah

said:Whoever is made

wealthy by Allaah and does not pay the Zakaah of his wealth, then on the Day of Resurrection his wealth will be made into a bald-headed, poisonous, male snake with two black spots over his eyes. The snake will encircle his neck and bite his cheeks and say, 'I am your wealth, I am your treasure. [Al-Bukhaari].

Stealing:The Messenger of Allaah

said: The Curse of Allaah is upon the thief who steals

(even) an egg and thus his hand is amputated.

Approaching ones wife from her rectum: The Messenger of Allaah look to the one who has intercourse with his wife in her rectum.

said: Allaah will not

The Khutbah of Eed Al-Fitr -III

Second Khutbah: O Muslims! Abu Hurayrah said: The Prophet said: Allaah has written down the very

portion of Zinaa which a person will indulge in. There will be no escape from it. The Zinaa of the eye is the (lustful) look, the Zinaa of the ears is the listening (to voluptuous songs or talk), the Zinaa of the tongue is (the licentious) speech, the Zinaa of the hand is the (lustful) grip, the Zinaa of the feet is the walking (to the place where he intends to commit Zinaa), the heart yearns and desires and the private parts approve all that (i.e. give in and do it) or disapprove it.[Al-Bukhaari and Muslim].

Abusing the rights of neighbors: The Messenger of Allaah

said: It is lesser evil for a man

to commit Zinaa (i.e. adultery or fornication) with ten women than to do so with his neighbors wife, and it is lesser evil for a man to steal from ten houses than to do so from his neighbors house.

Consuming intoxicants:Ibn Umar

narrated that the Prophet

said: There three types

of people to whom Allaah made Paradise forbidden, an alcoholic, an undutiful person to his parents, and a person with Dayaathah, who accepts immoral conduct on the (female) part of his family.[Ahmad].

Jaabir Ibn Abdullaah

reported: The Prophet

said: Allaah Has taken a pledge upon

Himself to make everyone who consumed intoxicants drink from Teenatul-Khabaal He was asked; `O Messenger of Allaah! What is Teenatul-Khabaal? `He made of the sweat and pus of the dwellers of Hell[Muslim]. replied: It is

The Prophet

also said: He who consumed intoxicants is like an idol worshipper

There are people who would start, or rather resume consuming intoxicants after the end of Ramadhaan woe to them for what they do they conclude the month and celebrate it by committing such a gave sin woe to them. Transgressing the great rights of the husbands: The rights of the husband are great in the sight of Allaah. The Prophet said: There are two types of people whose prayers would

not go beyond their heads (i.e. rejected) a woman who is disobedient to her husband and a disobedient slave

Abu Hurayrah

reported that the Prophet

said: If I were to order anyone to prostrate

himself before another, I would have ordered a woman to prostrate herself before her husband. [At-Tirmithi].

It is enough that Allaah made the husband the way to her Paradise, as The Prophet

said:

If a woman prayers her five daily prayers, fast her month (i.e. Ramadhaan) preserve her private parts (i.e. from illicit relations) and obeys her husband, she will be told (on the Day of Judgment) enter from any of the gates of Paradise you wish General advices:O Muslims! Fasting six days from the month of Shawwaal is equivalent to fasting two months, plus fasting Ramadhaan is equivalent to fasting ten months, which totals the fasting of the entire year, as in the narration of Abu Ayyoob who reported

that the Messenger of Allaah

said: He who observes fast during the month of

Ramadhaan, and also observes fast for six days in the month of Shawwaal, it is as if he has observed fast for the whole year. [Muslim]. Finally, O Muslims! Fear Allaah and do not ruin the castle of reward you built during the month of Ramadhaan fear Allaah and forget your disputes, dont you know that the knowledge of the exact night of Al-Qadr was concealed due to the dispute of two men maintain ties with your kinfolk remember your brothers and sisters from the Muslims worldwide remember the orphans, widows, the needy, the poor and the misplaced Muslims as they have rights over us.
