Design compact tractors with the same functionality as traditional models Shorten product development cycle Minimize physical prototypes
ANTONIO CARRARO
Compact multifunction tractors The history of Carraro tractors dates back to 1910, when Giovanni Carraro built the first multifunction agricultural machine. His workshop expanded gradually, transforming into an industrial business for the production of sowing machines and then tractors, until Antonio, his younger son, founded Antonio Carraro di Giovanni in 1960 and launched the companys first single-axis tractor. Since then the business, based in Campodarsego near Padova in northeast Italy, has focused on the construction of compact multifunction tractors. Compact and multifunction are the two distinct properties that differentiate Antonio Carraros tractors from conventional tractors. Damiano De Checchi, technical manager, explains, Our tractors are compact and have a low gravity center, because they must operate in areas that traditional models typically cant navigate, for instance vineyards and fruit fields, on expansive hills and even mountains with steep slopes. And they are multifunctional as they have to carry a wide range of equipment to perform operations not only in agriculture, but also in municipal services like road cleaning. This includes winter activities that require snow blades and salt spreaders. Same functionality, half the space Antonio Carraro offers 20 to 100 continuously variable transmission (CVT) models with two basic architectures: tractors with steering front wheels and articulated tractors with fixed wheels that turn by means of a central articulated joint on their chassis. Besides compact dimensions, the peculiarity of these machines is their reversibility, i.e., the drivers seat can be rotated by 180 degrees to drive the tractor in either direction with equally complete control, whether pulling or pushing.
Keys to success
NX to design in 3D and leverage virtual prototyping Teamcenter for full traceability and efficient management of all components Replacement of 2D drawings with advanced 3D files to improve supply chain communication

Compact dimensions are essential for our tractors. In the past we had to make physical prototypes for each new model to understand how we could layout and incorporate all components. Now, with NX, we can check everything virtually, in a faster and easier way. With virtual prototyping we have achieved a time saving of 20 percent.
