Back in 1987, a man by the name of Ra Uru Hu received a 'revelation'. It contained a huge amount of information about Chakras, the I Ching, the Tree of Life and Astrology. The revelation explained a new way to combine these ancient wisdoms in a way that aligns with modern science DNA and quantum physics. It was called The Human Design System. The chart is made up of chakras, circuits and gates. Your birth details are used to colour your chart, making it as unique as your astrology chart.

What makes each person's chart different? We add your planetary activations from astrology. This creates another layer of the chart. Each portion of the astrological zodiac has it's own place in the Human Design chart, and when a planet falls in that place we colour the chart in.

How do we know where to place the planets? That's where the I Ching comes in. The connection between Astrology and the I Ching is the engine room of the Human Design System.

This means you have specific coding in your DNA that causes you to be conservative, and you will feel uncomfortable if you are pressured to move forward too quickly. You prefer to grow into life's potential rather than rush things.

Gradual development creates co-operation and good relationships. Any development must be allowed to take its proper course. Attempts to influence others by agitating them doesn't have a lasting effect.
Hexagram 53

When we add the Astrology and the Tree of Life information to the mix, we know that you gain a sense of who you are (your Sun) through slow and steady co-operation with others (Hexagram 53) to achieve both good relationships and good outcomes for you both (Root Centre). There's a huge amount of information held within each Gate or Hexagram, including examining the meaning of the elements of the Hexagram Wood and Mountain. This example will give you some sense of how we begin to read your Human Design chart. Another way for us to understand something about that Sun activation in Gate/Hexagram 53 is to explore it's surroundings in the chart. We also want to know what's connected to the Sun in Gate 53. Are there other planets in the Root Centre? Are there more planets or asteroids in this Gate that will add to it's flavour? How is the Root Centre activated (does it have connections to other Centres)? The Hexagrams are always in the same place in the chart, they don't move around. Gate 53 (hexagram 53) is always at 15 to 20 degrees Cancer, and it's always in the Root Centre. It's the position of the planets that makes your chart unique. There's a huge difference in the look of charts.

The Power of your Pre-Natal Layer
Unlike your normal astrology chart, which only uses the birth time, Human Design uses two sets of planetary activations. There's the normal natal planets that are based on your birth time. And then there's a second set called the Pre-Natal or Design layer, created using a date and time about 3 months prior to when you were born (88 degrees of the Sun prior to birth to be exact). This second layer shows something about you that is natural and operates under your conscious awareness. This is different to the Jungian idea of the subconscious shadow. These gates show something in your energy field that you don't need to be consciously aware of. There's nothing wrong with them, nothing to be fixed. It's a bit like your heart beating or your lungs breathing. If you had to be aware of everything that was happening in your body you'd go quite mad. It's the same with the way you use your energy field. This PreNatal layer is also known as the Design layer. It's shown on the chart in red. The Natal layer is also known as the Personality layer. It represents what you are more conscious of in your energy field, and is shown on the chart in black. There is a power in putting these two aspects of self together and seeing how they interact.

Here's the Dalai Lama's chart showing both layers. This is what your standard Human Design chart looks like (with the wheels added in).

Notice how some gates join with others to form channels, and this creates an activation of the Centre at either end. These activations tell us a lot about what's connected in your energy field and what isn't. For example, if your Ajna Centre isn't connected to the Throat Centre you may have difficulty expressing what you are thinking. When a Centre doesn't have that connection, it's not activated and shows up as white on your chart. That means it is more sensitive and this is an area of your life where you tend to be affected much more than others by the people around you. You can order your free Human Design chart here.

Using the information in this ebook, you can look at which Centres each of your planets is in, and make some initial observations. If you Google Human Design you'll see a lot of information about Type. Your Type is shown in the Keynotes on your free chart. I don't work with Type anymore, as I find it too simplistic, even misleading. There is much more to Human Design than the standard chart. In my work with Human Design I use dwarf planets like Ceres and Haumea, asteroids like Juno and Eros, centaurs like Chiron and Hylonome. I also refer to The Great Attractor, the Galactic Centre, Super Galactic Centre and other black holes. I also use multi layered charts your spiritual layer, your transpersonal layer, sleep and dream layers and others. These Subtle Layers show how different aspects of your consciousness connect with each other in your day to day life.

A Whole New Answer To The Question ~ Who Am I?
So you see, Human Design is simply about looking at your chart and seeing what's coloured in and what's connecting to what. While there is literally an unlimited amount of information contained in your Human Design chart, there's an elegance to taking a simple view. This simple view informs something quite profound about ourselves and then takes us by the hand and leads us forward into the mystery of our life. Human Design will take us deeply into a contemplation of what it means to be a unique individual, one step at a time. I believe it is more easily understood than astrology because it is embedded in the body. The correlation between the I Ching and human DNA indicates that this is information held deep within our cells. Human Design can be a lived wisdom rather than a learnt philosophy. We integrate useful information at the appropriate time, as we go along our natural journey. In this way we embody wisdom about ourselves, rather than collect information. Our Human Design has the potential to support us to develop immense wisdom about ourselves and our relationships. I'm going to share with you something that I believe happens when we approach Human Design in this simple way. We lose our need to know and begin to enjoy the journey. We stop trying to fit ourselves to the information, and start allowing our observation of ourselves to be paramount. This frees us to be the authority in our own lives. And in this way, we discover a whole new answer to the question who am I?

Your Personal Planetary Story
Here's some questions to help you explore your design: 1. What chakras/centres do each of my planets activate?

2. What can I observe in my day to day life about how each of these Centres operate? For example: My Sun is in my Ajna Centre and I feel really alive when I'm thinking and talking to people. Mars is in my Heart Centre and I can be extremely willful when I want something.

3. Which of my Centres are undefined (they are white on your chart).

4. How do I try to control my life in these areas? What challenges do I experience when I experiment with letting go of control in these areas and going with the flow a bit more?

5. Which of my centres are defined?

6. What can I observe about what is strong for me in these areas of my life? How do I help others in this way?
