In this 21st century, most people can speak an average of two languages.

Some extraordinary minds can speak, read and write in more than twenty languages. Language is a very special aspect of life. It has the power to unite a nation, persuade, instill peace, form everlasting bond between two people and many others. Every country has its own special language. Since I am from Malaysia my mother tongue is Bahasa Melayu. I would strongly recommend friends and acquaintances to learn my native language because of several reasons. Firstly, learning to speak, read and write in Bahasa Melayu allows you to communicate with locals of several countries namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and some parts of The Philippines. If you ever decide to visit these countries , the common similarities of language make travelling much easier. You can fully comprehend the cultures and traditions of the people holistically without the barriers of language. Not only that, the time you have visiting these places will be much more enjoyable and meaningful as you can befriend the locals easily. In addition, by studying my native language Bahasa Melayu, you will get to learn about the history of the world. In the 14th century, Bahasa Melayu was the lingua franca or the common language of the world at the time. Traders from China, Europe, India and many more would come to Malacca, the name of Malaysia at the time, and carry out their trades fully spoken in Bahasa Melayu. Not only that, these traders would then go home and teach the language to their children. By knowing how to read in Bahasa Melayu, you are given an opportunity to study the ancient scripts of the past available in most countries and get to know how the world once was. Lastly, by studying my native tongue, you will get to enjoy Bahasa Melayu literary works in forms of songs and movies. There are thousands of artworks available in Bahasa Melayu around the world that you can enjoy. For example, Merong Mahawangsa, a very popular Malaysian movie production, was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie is in Bahasa Melayu therefore non-speakers can understand the movie by reading the subtitles provided, however it is agreed the movie will be much more enjoyable if we do not need to. Furthermore, songs and literary artworks in Bahasa Melayu can only be truly indulged if you know the language. Conclusively, Bahasa Melayu is a very interesting and wholesome language that can benefit a lot of people in many aspects of their lives. Therefore, do not cover yourself with doubt and go ahead and study this language. Not only is it easy, it is also fun to be able to understand the puns and jokes that Bahasa Melayu native speaker love doing to their friends.
