World Youth Day Rio to Bacolod

Joven Delos Santos

Last June 28, 2013 Sunday, more or less 200 young people gathered together at the St. John Marie Vianney hall of San Sebastian Cathedral Rectory to Culminate the celebration of the World youth day in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Looking back from the events happened, the celebration opened with the entrance of the Diocesan Youth Cross or the National Youth Day 2004 Cross and the icons of the World youth day. Young people dubbed as Young Pilgrims were warmly welcomed by their co-pilgrims as they animate themselves in spirit the WYD2013 Anthem. Rev. Fr. Lou-ann Torrefranca, Vicariate youth Director of la Carlota deepen the understanding of the pilgrims about the theme of this years world youth day. Go and Make disciples of all nations ( Mt.28:19 ). Becoming a missionary is to become a disciple of Christ, becoming a disciple of Christ is to become a follower of Christ Fr. Lou-an said. He examples us the Facebook where Jesus is the main user. We young people in the church are his friends, and our mission is to get to know Jesus to others until we become mutual friends with Jesus. After the catechesis, was the Eucharist adoration of the holy Eucharist or the holy hour. Young people knelt down in prayer for the solemnity of the vigil. After the vigil, an update was given by Mr. Giovanni Solibio on the happenings in Brazil. Mr. Solibio shared on the popes speech to the youth of the world during the most highlighted event of the world youth day, the vigil with the pope in Copacabana beach in Brazil. Pope Francis asked the youth to train their faith just as soccer players do with their skills, and the reward is much greater than winning the world cup. He also asked the youth to become authentic Christians and to welcome Christ in their lives.

In the afternoon, young pilgrims deepen their understanding in a small group sharing, they shared each others thoughts on being an authentic disciples and missionaries of Christ. Then after which, a Eucharistic celebration was presided by Rev. Fr. Mitch Guadalupe. In his Homily, he shared his experiences when he was still the diocesan youth director. He said that a church without youth is a dying church. He told the youth how important they are in the life and mission of the church. He also said that we should not forget to offer everything to God every time we wake up in the morning and every step we do, and God will always guide us anywhere we go. In his final blessing, Fr. Mitch gave us the challenge to Go and make disciples of nations, with these words Jesus is teaching to each one of us. It is wonderful to take part in this World youth day. Now is the time to pass on this experience to others. Jesus is calling us as disciples with a mission.
