Prayer is the most essential mass communication between Man and
God. It is the tool of spirituality. Prayer is the most intimate and sacred communication one can do to put God to the test, either for one’s self or ansomeone else’s behalf. Prayer is the act of addressing a god or spirit for the purpose of worship or petition. Specific forms of this may include praise, requesting guidance or assistance, confessing sins, or an expression of one's thoughts and emotions. The words used in prayer may take the form of intercession, a hymn, words of gratitude, or a spontaneous- (rather than from planning),utterance in the person's praying words. Praying can be done in public, as a group, or in private. THE POWER OF PRAYER Prayer is our communion with God, whether it is a petition made to God, worship, repentance, praise, or thanksgiving. It doesn't have to be a laid-out prayer, but words from the heart. God wants all of us, he knows our minds and hearts, so why not talk to him as if he already knows the situation. James 5:16 Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. The effectual fervent prayer is one with power behind it, one that produces results. We have to believe what we pray, not just 'mouth' words. Sometimes we go blindly into our prayers, not knowing in which direction to go. Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you , What things soever ye desire, when ye pray , believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them]. Desires of the heart should be those that will glorify God, not necessarily the human desires we have to make our life better. Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray , use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. God knows each thought we have, so why not go to HIM and talk with him as you would if you were to meet him on the street. Prayers do not have to be long, drawn out affairs, but we need to be precise in what we are asking, and ask according to the bible rather than asking blindly for what we want. If it glorifies the Lord, then it will be something good for us. If it does not, then we shouldn't be asking for it in our prayers. LET OUR PRAYER WORK FOR US 2. Timothy 2:4 states: Don’t get entangled in the affaires of this life. It is therefore important that we as Children of God spend quality time in constant prayer so that when we are presented with situation like healing of the sick, helping someone to break through their mountain, etc. , one having stayed prayed up and with faith, one will indeed experience the glory of God through prayer, for God has given us the full authority to work on his behalf, if we just prayer. WE WILL BE ABLE TO TALK LIKE GOD “ Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith” (Mark 11:23) WE MUST FREE OUR FAITH And when ye stand praying, forgive if he ought against any,” (mark 11:25) when we actually do this part of the work which seems very hard to do sometimes as human, (forgive), then we must move on to: (mark 11:24) what things so ever he desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have the, and when ye stand praying, forgive’. Write these down: 1. Faith makes our prayer work 2. Prayer will never work without faith 3. Faith will work without prayer Prayer is one of the means of releasing faith, so if we will line our selves up with the word of God and release our faith when we pray; we will se the power of God.
THE PRAYER OF JABEZ
1 Chronicles 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh
that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested."
MATTHEW HENRY COMMENTARY:
The most remarkable person in this chapter is Jabez. We are not told upon what account Jabez was more honourable than his brethren; but we find that he was a praying man. The way to be truly great, is to seek to do God's will, and to pray earnestly. Here is the prayer he made. Jabez prayed to the living and true God, who alone can hear and answer prayer; and, in prayer he regarded him as a God in covenant with his people. He does not express his promise, but leaves it to be understood; he was afraid to promise in his own strength, and resolved to devote himself entirely to God. Lord, if thou wilt bless me and keep me, do what thou wilt with me; I will be at thy command and disposal for ever. As the text reads it, this was the language of a most ardent and affectionate desire, Oh that thou wouldest bless me! Four things Jabez prayed for. 1. That God would bless him indeed. Spiritual blessings are the best blessings: God's blessings are real things, and produce real effects. 2. That He would enlarge his coast. That God would enlarge our hearts, and so enlarge our portion in himself, and in the heavenly Canaan, ought to be our desire and prayer. 3. That God's hand might be with him. God's hand with us, to lead us, protect us, strengthen us, and to work all our works in us and for us, is a hand all-sufficient for us. 4. That he would keep him from evil, the evil of sin, the evil of trouble, all the evil designs of his enemies, that they might not hurt, nor make him a Jabez indeed, a man of sorrow. God granted that which he requested. God is ever ready to hear prayer: his ear is not now heavy.
