Lord of the hosts of heaven, our salvation and our strength, without you we are lost: guard us from all that harms or hurts and raise us when we fall; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We sit for THE LITURGY OF THE WORD The First Reading from Isaiah 58:6-12
6

Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? 7Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? 8Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the LORD shall be your rearguard. 9Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry
3

for help, and he will say, Here I am. If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, 10if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. 11 The LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. 12Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in. This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God

We stand and sing as the Gospel Book is brought to the people. turn to face the centre of church.
Be still for the presence of the Lord The holy one is here Come bow before him now With reverence and fear In him no sin is found We stand on holy ground Be still for the presence of the Lord The holy one is here Be still for the glory of the Lord Is shining all around He burns with holy fire With splendour he is crowned How awesome is the sight Our radiant king of light Be still for the glory of the Lord Is shining all around Be still for the power of the Lord

David Evans (c) Thankyou Music 1986

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew 5.13-16
Jesus went up the mountain and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to teach them: 13You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
14

At the end the reader says

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you O Christ

we sit for the ADDRESS

THE PRESENTATION

Paul

comes forward

Paul, do you wish to be baptized? I do.

Dave talks to Paul

Faith is Gods gift. In baptism God is adding to our number those whom he is calling. People of God will you welcome Paul and support him in his new life in Christ? With the help of God we will

Pauls sponsors come forward to stand with him.

THE DECISION Paul, in baptism, God calls us out of darkness into his light. To follow Christ means dying to sin and rising into new life with him. Therefore I ask: Do you turn to Christ? I turn to Christ Do you repent of your sins? I repent of my sins Do you renounce evil? I renounce evil THE ANOINTING IN OIL WITH THE SIGN OF THE CROSS Paul, Christ claims you for his own. Receive the sign of his cross.

Sponsors are invited to make the sign of the cross on his forehead
Do not be ashamed of Christ. You are his for ever. Stand bravely with him. Oppose the power of evil, and remain his faithful disciple to the end of your life. May almighty God deliver you from the powers of darkness, restore in you his image and lead you in the light of Christ always. Amen

We all stand for the procession to the font as we sing

Alleluia (x8) Jesus is Lord! Hes my Saviour

PRAYER OVER THE WATER Praise the God of all creation who keeps his promise for ever We praise you, loving Father, for the gift of your Son Jesus. On him you poured your Spirit at his baptism in the River Jordan. He sent his followers to baptize all who turn to him. And so, Father, we ask you to bless this water, that those who are baptized in it may be cleansed in the water of life, filled with your Spirit and know themselves loved as your children, safe in Christ for ever. Amen AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Let us affirm with Paul our common faith in Christ Jesus Do you believe and trust in God the Father, source of all being and life, the one for whom we exist? I believe and trust in him
7

Do you believe and trust in God the Son who took our human nature, died for us and rose again? I believe and trust in him Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God and makes Christ known in the world? I believe and trust in him This is the faith of the Church This is our faith We believe and trust in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit THE BAPTISM Paul I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen May God, who has received you by baptism into his church pour upon you the riches of his grace that within the company of Christs pilgrim people you may daily be renewed by his anointing Spirit and come to the inheritance of the saints in glory. Amen Paul, today God has touched you with his love and given you a place among his people. God promises to be with you in joy and in sorrow, to be your guide in life, and to bring you safely to heaven. In baptism God invites you on a lifelong journey. Together with all Gods people you must explore the way of Jesus and grow in friendship with God,
8

in love for his people, and in serving others. With us you will listen to the word of God and receive the gifts of God.

We sing as we return to the front of church where Paul will be welcomed.

Lord, we praise you How we love you There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism: by one Spirit we are all baptised into the one body. We welcome you into the fellowship of faith: we are children of the same heavenly Father; we welcome you We stand for THE PEACE We are alone in Christ Jesus. We belong to him through faith, heirs of the promise of the Spirit of peace. The peace of the Lord be always with you and also with you Let us offer one another a sign of peace

During this hymn THE COLLECTION is taken & the bread & wine brought to the altar
(538) O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end; be thou for ever near me, my Master and my Friend:
9

I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side, nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my guide. O let me hear thee speaking in accents clear and still, above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will; O speak to reassure me, to hasten or control; O speak, and make me listen, thou guardian of my soul. O Jesus, thou hast promised to all who follow thee, that where thou art in glory there shall thy servant be; and, Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end: O give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend. O let me see thy foot-marks, and in them plant mine own; my hope to follow duly is in thy strength alone: O guide me, call me, draw me, uphold me to the end; and then in heaven receive me, my Saviour and my Friend.

we remain standing

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING The Lord is here His Spirit is with us Lift up your hearts We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give thanks and praise Almighty God, good Father to us all, your face is turned towards your world. In love you gave us Jesus your Son to rescue us from sin and death. Your Word goes out to call us home to the city where angels sing your praise. We join with them in heavens song: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of powr and God of might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest; Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he, blessed is he, blessed is he who comes in the name, he who comes in the name of the Lord. hosanna in the highest; Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

11

Father of all, we give you thanks for every gift that comes from heaven. To the darkness Jesus came as your light. With signs of faith and words of hope he touched untouchables with love and washed the guilty clean. The crowds came out to see your Son, yet at the end they turned on him. On the night he was betrayed he came to table with his friends to celebrate the freedom of your people. Jesus blessed you, Father, for the food; he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and said: This is my body, given for you all. Jesus then gave thanks for the wine; he took the cup, gave it and said: This is my blood, shed for you all for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in remembrance of me Therefore, Father, with this bread and this cup we celebrate the cross on which he died to set us free. Defying death he rose again and is alive with you to plead for us and all the world. Send your Spirit on us now that by these gifts we may feed on Christ with opened eyes and hearts on fire. May we and all who share this food offer ourselves to live for you and be welcomed at your feast in heaven where all creation worships you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: Blessing and honour and glory and power
12

be yours for ever and ever. Amen.

we sit and silence is kept

As our Saviour taught us so we pray: Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be your name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen BREAKING THE BREAD We break this bread to share in the body of Christ Though we are many we are one body because we all share in the one bread Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us.
13

Jesus, Lamb of God, Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us your peace, grant us your peace. INVITATION TO COMMUNION You prepare a table for us, offering not just bread, not just wine, not just blessing, but your very self so that we may be filled, forgiven, healed, blessed and made new.

The Servers & Choir receive communion followed by the congregation. We sit as we sing the hymns during Communion Everyone is welcome to come to the altar rail to receive a blessing or the bread and the wine

Anthem:

O God of mercy (Lole)

(308)
Just as I am, without one plea but that thy blood was shed for me, and that thou bidst me come to thee, O lamb of God, I come, Just as I am, though tossed about with many a conflict, many a doubt, fightings and fears within, without, O lamb of God, I come. Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind; sight, riches, healing of the mind, yea, all I need, in thee to find,
14

O lamb of God, I come. Just as I am, thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve: because thy promise I believe, O lamb of God, I come. Just as I am. thy love unknown has broken every barrier down, now to be thine, yea, thine alone, O lamb of God, I come. Just as I am, of that free love the breadth, length, depth, and height to prove, here for a season, then above, O lamb of God, I come.

when everyone has been to the altar rail we say together:

Go before us, Lord, in all we do with your most gracious favour, and guide us with your continual help, that in all our works begun, continued and ended in you, we may glorify your holy name, and finally by your mercy receive everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen May the Father from whom every family on earth and in heaven receives its name, strengthen you with his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith and that knowing his love, broad and long, deep and high
15

you may be filled with all the fullness of God. and the blessing.. Amen
