Summary of MSC Town Hall

MSC Town Hall is a concert and entertainment programming committee here at Texas A&M University. We are responsible for programming between thirty and forty events each school year. As a committee, we take charge of the promotion and execution of these events. We have a variety of types of programs, ranging from large to small in scale. We are responsible for bringing a wide variety of music and entertainment that will appeal to diverse student interests. Below you will find descriptions of the eight subcommittees that make up Town Hall. You will be placed in one of these subcommittees if you are selected after the interview process, but you will not be restricted to just that one committee. There will be several mandatory events where all Town Hall members will be needed to participate, such as: - Fall retreat TBD - Any large concerts that we bring to Texas A&M campus - First Year Experience Workshop October 2 from 6:00-8:00pm In addition to the mandatory events, we require all members to meet minimum requirements. This year we have implemented an Accountability System. You will be expected to attend all General Committee Meetings and Subcommittee meetings. The attendance of these meetings is vital to your success in this organization. Your tasks of the week will be assigned at these weekly meetings. We will be relying on you to complete these tasks and we assume by your application that you are excited to do so! If your performance does not meet our expectations then you will be evaluated for dismissal. It's like a job! An enjoyable one. Enjoy it. Love it. Embrace it. Membership dues are $70 per year, or $45 per semester. Dues include a MSC Town Hall t-shirt, polo, retreats and banquets for each semester, as well as food and activities at any social functions. If you cannot pay the dues all at one time, do not let that deter you from applying. We will do everything in our power to figure out a payment plan that will work for you! There will also be other apparel available for purchase (track jackets, subcommittee t-shirts) throughout the year that are not included in the dues. These are NOT required for our members. With all of that being said, MSC Town Hall will become like your second family! We will have several socials during the year, and you are encouraged to hang out with your subcommittees. Our meetings will occur every other Wednesday evening at 8:30 pm, which are mandatory for all members. Individual subcommittees will have their own mandatory meetings on alternating weeks as well. But, trust me, you wont want to miss them! If you have a passion for music and want to get an inside look at putting on concerts (and HAVE FUN while you are doing it), MSC Town Hall is the place for you!

Subcommittees to Apply For

Advertising, Marketing and Promotions - AMP The AMP subcom is responsible for a large portion of advertising for Town Hall's events, including creating flyers, banners, newspaper ads, sandwich boards and poster items. They are responsible for creating and distributing surveys through email, website, and our concert events in order to gather information from TAMU students on how to enhance the quality of Town Hall's programs and image. AMP is constantly looking for new and creative ways to advertise Town Hall's name through stickers, slogans, and promotional items. Anyone interested in photography or web design, this is the subcom for you. COFFEEHOUSE Coffeehouse provides an opportunity for A&M and professional musicians, comedians, poets and entertainers alike to show their stuff Thursday nights between 6pm-8pm in the lower level of the MSC. The committee is responsible for all programming and musical aspects of these shows including Coffeehouse themes, finding and booking acts, running sound equipment, and all other aspects of the show (especially publicity). Coffeehouse's atmosphere strives to be casual yet focused by historically providing eclectic, innovative and rootsy music by songwriters and performers from jazz, folk, poetry, hip hop, jam bands and indie bands. DEVELOPMENT An important aspect of MSC Town Hall is promotion and establishing business contacts within the Aggie community. It is Developments responsibility to reach out and make contacts with companies, parents and former students to raise sponsorship and funds for Town Hall. This year Development will be very involved in planning all aspects of an MSC Town Hall Reunion. LUNCH BOX CONCERTS The Lunchbox Concert Series at Rudder Fountain occurs approximately once a week from noon-1pm. Bands range across every genre from rock to country to folk and everything in between. The subcommittee will be involved with finding bands and running the entire show. An open schedule on at least one of the following timeslots is required: MW 10:3012, MW 12:30-1:30, TTh 10:30-12, TTh 12:30-1:30. **Please attach a copy of your schedule with application**. SPECIAL EVENTS- SpEv Special events are any event or concert that does not fall within the job descriptions of the other committees, specifically larger nighttime performances. The special events committee is responsible for all aspects of a putting on an event: from finding the performer, setting up the stage, and working the show. Additionally, special events members will be responsible for assisting other subcommittees when we are not preparing for a show. We usually try to do 2 to 3, medium to large shows per semester. For Battle of the Bands, committee members are involved in picking bands, assisting in advertisement, putting on the concert, and selecting the best of said bands. The concert will proceed in a manner representative of Town Hall-styled fun, which is to say it will be mind-blowing at the least. BotB will only be

on the agenda for Fall, so in the Spring we will solely focus on SpEv, although we will be doing another SpEv show in the Fall. SPECIAL PA MEMBERS - SPAM SPAM is the force that makes Town Halls shows run smoothly. We are the audio professionals that deal with the technical details. As a member of SPAM, you will make sure the Town Hall sound system gets where it needs to be and setup properly. Additionally, SPAM is responsible for running sound at every Town Hall event so that the beauty of the performances can shine through to the world. Youll get hands on experience working with musicians all while learning the ins and outs of running a show. An open schedule on at least one of the following timeslots is required: MW 10:30-12, MW 12:30-1:30, TTh 10:3012, TTh 12:30-1:30, TTh 6-9pm. **Please attach a copy of your schedule with application**. STUDENT DEVELOPMENT StuD is an internal subcommittee with the mission of creating an enjoyable and welcoming atmosphere for all of Town Hall. We plan and run retreats, social events, EPs/LPs (our version of the Big/Little program), as well as the General Committee Meetings (GCMs). Our most important job is ushering in an atmosphere that allows for lifelong friendships and bonds to be formed. That being said, we are the rock stars, the champions, and the Grammy winners of Town Hall. The Stud subcommittee is the GLUE that holds TOWN HALL together. Student Development is for all you crowd pleasers and social butterflies that can still get down to business when its business time.
