WASTE FOODS OF SUPERMARKETS


INTRODUCTION

One of the biggest environmental issues in the global is food waste, there are huge amount of foods being wasted by the supermarkets. Mark(2009) claimed that 3.2 million tonnes of waste were abandoned into landfills in 2006 and the the basic problem of waste is food waste. Some of these foods being wasted are because the supermarkets cannot sell these foods at good prices. And the other parts of foods being wasted are because they were going expired, so the supermarkets were concerned about the quality. Veith. (2013, Sep, 19). Expired dates on food have nothing to do with whether or not its still safe to eat. That means, huge amount of foods are wasted by supermarkets. To reduce the waste foods by supermarkets, our company will use the information system to connect with supermarkets and collect those foods, to use them efficiently; our company will delivered those foods to food bank or cannery.

Industry: Supermarkets excess foods gathering industry. This industry is aim to gather the food which cannot sell out by supermarkets, also increase the utilization of the foods. The core part of this industry is the database, because this database controls the every step of the business. That means we also can call it software industry.

The threat of new entrants is quite low, because Except the high technology, it also requires the collaboration with the delivery company to deal with these excess foods.

The threat of substitutes is quite low. if food could not be sold it was either donated to poverty charity FareShare, converted into animal feed for livestock, or was recycled into renewable fuel(Tesco,2013)

Rivalry among existing Low competitors:

The competition within this industry is low. Talyor(2013)indicated that thousands of tonnes food are thrown into landfills by supermarkets every year. That means there is quit low level of competition within the competitiors.

Overall attractiveness of the industry: The overall attractiveness is high, because the existing competition and threat of the new entrants are low, also the threat of substitutes is low. So the overall attractiveness of this industry is high.
3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision

To reduce the foods waste by supermarkets and improve the utilization of foods and supply foods for people who cannot afford their daily foods demand.
3.3 Customers and Their Needs

Our target customer is cannery, because our price is much cheaper than the other raw materials factory, also we can guarantee the quality of the fruits and meats, so these excess foods can make more competitive advantage for our company. Food giant Heinz is relocating an Australian tomato sauce operation to New Zealand, Heinz Australia spokesman Mike Robinson said the cost of making the factory competitive was too high. One of the factory competitive factor is the cost price, because our products has lower price than the other raw materials factories, then we are more attractive than the other factories.
3.4 The Product and Service

Our database can collect all foods information from the supermarkets, once the information updated to our database, our system can accurately acquainted the situation of the foods. Once the information of the excess food being updated to the database, our staffs will immediately to collect those products before the expired date, then some of those foods which nearly expired will be sending to the food bank to support the people who cannot afford their daily demand, while the other foods like fruits, meats will be sending to different kinds of cannery. To make sure these foods can be processed into can products when their have acceptable quality.
3.5 Suppliers and Partners

Our suppliers mainly are the local supermarkets, such as Countdown and Pak'nSave. These supermarkets gave us the information of the foods, so we can collect the excess foods from the supermarkets accurately. Also the other supplier is the software store, which can support us with latest software. And we also have two partners which are Angel Delivery Company and Food Runner Company who charge the delivery of the foods. Through the collaboration of the delivery company with us, our business can have more competitive advantage within this food excess gathering industry.
3.6 Strategy: Focused Low Cost

The competitive scope of our company is focus on the narrow market, because we aim to gather the excess foods from the local supermarkets at a lower price, so that is quite a

narrow market. Also the foods we collect is quite cheap than the other products, such as mobile phone or laptop. So our cost strategy is focus on the low cost.. The overall strategy is therefore Focused low cost.
3.7 Value Chain Activity: Technology development

The most important value chain activity for this business is Technology development. The significant value chain activity is the technology development for our business, because we have to connect with the supermarkets and collect all the information about the excess products, also there is limited time between we get information and the products delivery. so it is necessary to keep advance our technology. So our system can aquire the information fast and precise.This can help us create more competitive advantage.

important process for our company, which creates new software and advance the technology for our system. First of all, we design a database to collect all the foods information, after all the products being scanned; we can integrate all the information and upload this information to the database. The technology development process can help us to classify the foods more efficiently and accurately. Also, the technology development process can help us to reduce the costs and generate more profits.

This process started with the supermarkets; first of all, the systems will control and classify the types of the products, after the accurate classification, our partner will deliver these foods from the supermarkets to the different types of cannery.

This system is aim to advance the products which helps the daily operation of our company. Also it aims to discover and create new knowledge about our database. Because the core part of this system is the database, The supermarkets like Countdown and PaknSave will scan all their products and upload all these products information like expired date to our database, then our database will automatically classify these products as meat or fruits. And classify them according to the

expired date. This means we need to keep research and develop for our database, to make our company have more competitive advantage. Quality control system is a system which record the expired date of the foods, in case the foods quality getting worse, this system will set the alert date of foods, to make sure the foods quality is acceptable, this system can guarantee the foods quality for us. Also it can make sure the foods that we sell to the cannery are still good enough. That means the quality control system is significant process to our company.

CONCLUSION

One of the biggest environmental issues in the global is food waste, there are huge amount of foods being wasted by the supermarkets. To reduce this huge amount of foods waste effectively, we create database to control and collect the information of these excess foods. And then deliver them to the different cannery to use them efficiently.
