5.00pm Conclusion
Michael Raiter
Mike Raiter is the Director of the Centre for
Biblical Preaching in Melbourne, a partnership
between the Church Missionary Society (CMS)
and St James Old Cathedral, West Melbourne.
Previously he was the Head of the Department
of Mission at Moore College and, more recently,
Principal of Melbourne School of Theology.
Mike spent 11 years working in Pakistan, largely
in theological education. He is married to Sarah
and they have 4 children (Joel, Nate, Pippa
and Lauren). To keep t Mike likes to wrap his
mind around cryptic crosswords, sudokus, and
Scandinavian crime novels. He is the author of
the 2004 Australian Christian Book of the Year,
Stirrings of the Soul.
Sam McGeown
Sam grew up in Belfast (Northern Ireland)
and became a follower of Jesus as a child.
He went to Bible College in Northern Ireland
before spending 12 years in Japan. There he
was involved in planting a church, leading a
Japanese black Gospel Choir, working with
homeless people and was principal of an
English school. Oh and found a wife there
too. He is married to Yoriko and they have
4 children, whose names mean Grace in 4
different languages.
After Japan he moved to Melbourne, studied at
Ridley College and then worked as the pastor
of a Japanese church in Melbourne and with
CMS. Today Sam works with CMS in Brisbane.
His present job is training potential missios and
helping the church think about mission. He also
spends quite a lot of time with asylum seekers
and refugees. Sam loves reading, watching
Korean war movies, playing strategy games,
watching soccer and going to the beach with
his family.
