I have been reading this Series for several years and have enjoyed it. I was saddened to hear that this would be the last book but after 13 books I can see how the series had to end. I love how she ended it bringing back characters that had been forgotten about and had either loved or hated. reading this book I was reminded how much I loved the characters and that all the characters are strong. No brooding female teenagers or Sparkling Vampires ( even though there are vampires fairy's ware wolves and other fantastic characters). I was also reminded how much more I like the books as opposed to the TV show that is based off the books True Blood. I liked the show at first but the creator of the show has strayed so far from the plot and characters of the books that for me has become to much of a disappointment. Now back to the book. Sookie remains the strong female character that we all have started to love no matter what she is presented with she comes through with an optimistic attitude. Charlane Harris ended this series beautifully and how I wanted it to. In October there will be a follow up to this last book with stories on what everyone is up to after the events of this last book.

I am very disappointed! Not in the book or in Miss Charlaine Harris, but in all of the bad reviews this book is getting! I knew from the start that Sookie would end up with who she did in the end. I read some reviews, and I was very upset by all the bad marks Ms. Harris was getting. She said she knew from the start how she was going to end this series, regardless of what others may think. It makes sense on why Charlaine chose that route, and I don't get why others don't get it either. Think about Sookie's life; which person would make her life the best for her down the road when she is getting older? One review I read, said they'll never read another book by Charlaine, and another said they are suspicious of the ratings that are higher than one or two stars for this book. Why? I don't get it. Charlaine ended this series perfectly. For the readers that watch the show True Blood also, STOP comparing the books to the show! They are nothing alike. The show is BASED - meaning, some similarities, not exactly the same- off the book, not the other way around! Keep that in mind, please. Charlaine, I love you and your books, you did fabulously, amazing work with this series! I'm sad it has come to an end, but all good things come to an end. Everyone else, stop with the harsh words and low ratings just because this book didn't end in the way you felt it should have, it makes perfect sense the way it ended.

I am really saddened by all of the horrible reviews of this book and the personal attacks directed at the author. There are some disadvantages to social media. The ease of these attacks is one. I understand being personally invested in a story and being dissatisfied with an ending, but c'mon. Really? I felt like this ending was very true to Sookie's character. She has always been a strong, independent woman who valued loyalty, family and friends more than anything. And, let's not forget, that this has always been Sookie's story, not Sookie and Bill's story or Sookie and Eric's, etc. Her forays into the supernatural community over the years that these books take place have caused her heartache and pain, the likes of which she couldn't have imagined when Bill first walked into the bar. The heartache and betrayal she suffered at the hands of many of these supes led her full circle and back to what she has always held dearest - loyalty and family and friends. She wouldn't be the Sookie we've come to know otherwise. For all of these reasons, I say...well done!

I thought the book was excellent. It was written in several points of view which added to the suspense of the story. I enjoyed that it was written from the point of view of those who wanted to harm Sookie as well as Sookie herself. The book's tone changed at times but I think that was done in coordinating the story's theme and other points of view. To me it worked. This book was not in the usual style Ms. Harris presents but to me I liked that it was not predictable as some past books were in a sense. I knew that Sam and Sookie would be romantically involved in this last book but was glad to see that it did not blow up into a whirlwind type romance. I saw the romance door towards Remy did not close either. Although slim, it is possible. The manner in which the vampires were portrayed was real to the story and opened Sookie's eyes further into their world, political structure and their behavior towards outsiders. I am glad that Sookie realized that Eric did not want to respect her wishes and make her a vampire- but did not. In this last book Sookie got a new perceptive on vampires. I feel the one that most humans have. I did see that I felt that Eric did love her as much as a vampire could as he has said repeatedly throughout the stories. He gave her protection in the end. All in all he was a traditional vampire and behaved as such. Although they could not be together as human and vampire- it was as good as it gets for that time. They satisfied each others needs until Eric's maker changed that. In this book we find Sookie cursing a bit more. Although this is not in Sookies character and has not appeared before, I think there were hints of this. Besides she works in a bar, she is a telepath- what do you think she hears all day ( with her ears and her "other" sense)? Sookie has changed with each experience she has had. These stories cover a (approximate) 2 or 2 year period. That is a lot of things to happen to a person and not have it affect you in some manner. Sookie has witnessed murders in front of her, people trying to kill her, kidnapping and torture her, learned a new societal hierarchy in vampires, werewolves and panthers, seeing a crucifixion of his brothers wife, supernatural wars, meeting new relatives, discovering what actually happened to her murdered parents, being a surviving murder victim, walking in on her grandmothers murder, experiencing vampire blood and its effects, people noticing you are changing from the blood, encountering a maenad, fae, were-wolves, panthers, tigers, enduring a shattered heart break with Bill and a slow arduous break-up with Eric who wants to keep her as his piece on the side.. And being part of a vampire divorce, witnessed by a King and Queen. She also has been banned from Fantasia (hey-maybe that is a good thing) and Oklahoma (ok that is good too). All of these things, yet Sookie is not totally jaded with life. Sookie has discovered she has real honest to goodness friends who stand by her, has a standing in the community, and her life now is with more with humans not supernaturals. In a way she is like her Gran who had her affair with Fintan the fairy many years ago and live though her own husbands death, her lovers death and childrens death. She went on to live until a vampire fanatic killed in cold blood. All in all- I wonder how it would have turned out if Gran lived and the CD was used on her? A different story.. I felt Dead Ever After tied up most of the loose ends in of this series. I am waiting for the CODA to come out. This book should finally end the world of Sookie Stackhouse. To me the book ended right- she found herself, her place in the community and her real fiends. I gave this book a 5 star rating because it warranted it- regardless of what others think. Ms. Harris ended this book in what I feel was an appropriate note. By the way I enjoyed An. An is a nickname of Andrea- I have heard it many times. I also think in a manner of thinking- An could be a "younger" version of Sookie before her Supernatural experience. I also was please the Claude's "outside" now matched his "inside". And I will leave it at that.
