Activity
Night and Day
Explore all experiences and knowledge the children have about day and night. By asking the children if they know what a day and a night is. Then ask about what activities they do when it is day and what activities they do when it is night. Talk about how having a day and night system helps us to live better on earth. For example, we work and play during the day and we sleep and rest at night. Plants need daylight to grow in and owls need nighttime to fly in. Ask the preschoolers to imagine what would happen if there was no day or if there was no night. What would the world be like then? Show the preschoolers photographs of Animals that thrive during the day - Horses, Cattle, Deer, Elephants, Crows. Animals that thrive during the night - Toads, Bats, Owls, Raccoon, Lion, Tiger, Jaguar. Have students dramatize with or without music, three or four activities that are done at night or during the day or both. Examples include going to sleep, waking up, get dressed, eating breakfast, going to school, playing with friends, brushing teeth
Individual Practice: Preschoolers will complete a chart already labeled with sun, moon, day, and night, provided by teacher. On which students can either draw or use pictures from magazines/newspapers to complete their charts with scenes or activities that are nighttime or daytime activities.
