NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

NPD is a centre to develop and manufacture the product samples according to the market trends and customer demands for functional and aesthetic purposes. It was established in February 2004.

NPD: Philosophy and Work Processes. Various samples are developed before fabrics are produced in bulks. Various shades are developed before fabrics are produced in bulks and given to marketing executives or agents. According to choice and demand, new blend of yarns are produced. Quarterly advance booking conferences are held, where all dealers, agents and marketing executives are invited. New samples are shown to them and accordingly booking undertaken. Factors considered for development of yarns:1. Market trends- Those trends that are acceptable in market are basically developed. 2. Availability of raw materials-Only those fabrics are developed of which raw materials are available; like there are patterns according to seasons as in winter the availability of raw materials is different as that in summer. 3. Costing of fabrics- Another important factor is costing. Its only within costing range a yarn is developed 4. Plant / Location limitation- There are sometimes a few plant limitations (typical volumes in line, machinery efficiency, labor availability, etc.) which are to be kept in mind. In todays competitive scenario, design & development plays vital role in development new products based on customers requirements as well as market feedback i.e. latest The market is segmented into the following four groups: 1. Domestic

FR-Flame Retardant Major export area- Syria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UK, Italy, France, Japan and USA Major blend- P/V Major counts (Warp)-2/30s, 2/40s, 2/24s, 2/15s & 2/12s Basic functioning of the department is to develop the yarn with exact or nearby yarn details considering the fabric details considering the cost effect in mind.

YARN DEVLOPMENTIn todays competitive scenario, no manufacturing unit can rely only on stock shades as well as fixed typed of yarn to fulfill market requirement. We in RSWM going at par with the market demand. Have both in house yarn development as well as shade development facilities. The department works on dual principal i.e. 1. Developing yarn as per customers reference 2. Developing in house new. Development cab is in the form of blend, ratio, ply, twist, direction. Once the development is completed and approved by the concerned customer, article no. is generated in system for further uses. DYE HOUSE & DEVELOPMENTThe department can be bifurcated in two1. Development- the basic job of this department is to develop shade recipe to match the need of the customer in consideration with the cost factor.

2. Production- the installed capacity of dye house is 12 tons/day in case of 100% polyester fiber where as with yarn dyeing average comes out to be 8-5 tons/day. Department plans according to monthly program. YARN AND FABRIC RANGE OF NPD 1. Functional Purposes: Fire retardant, high temp proof, anti bacterial, moisture absorbent, perspiration proof,, elastic, anti static, technical textiles. 2. Aesthetic purposes: Fancy yarns, various types of effects like neppy effect, slub, injection slub, courser fabrics, metallic yarns, soft yarns ( yarns with good tactile properties). 3. Aesthetic yarns are classified into following four categories: 4. Suitings 5. Shirtings 6. Furnishings 7. Knits

MARKETING STRATEGY: 1. Through marketing offices in India and abroad

2. Direct and indirect interaction with customers by officials (via internet). 3. Participating in exhibitions and displaying new products. 4. To explore new markets.

PRODUCT SHARE Institutional share is about 10% of the total production. 40% suiting and 60% furnishing and knitting share. DEVELOPMENT OF SAMPLE: Stages Involved, In Chronological Order 1. TIME: Development of sample takes around 5-10 days. The time taken in delivery of sample is around 20-25 days. Full and final delivery time is almost 30 days. And the total time taken to ship the material is around 45-60 days. INFRASTRUCTURE OF NPD: 1. Knitting machines = 4 (2 circular and 2 flat bed) 2. Dyeing machines = 1 3. Mixing machines = 1 4. Dryer = 1 5. Spectrolide machines = 1

All these are a part of the miniature plant of NPD.

1. There are 4 HTHP machines in mill no. 6 of different capacities (1,2,3,5 kg) 2. There are 3 looms and 1 carding machine to create nepps.

PROFITABILITY: Normal spinning unit: 4-5 PSS

NPD: 15-20 PSS

CONCLUSION: Currently the share/contribution of NPD is 5-10% which is expected to be increased to around 10% within one year.
