10) This poem is made up of I. Cinquains II. Tercets III. Quatrains A. I only B. II only C. III only D. I and III only E. II and III only Answer Key: 1. B Because the reader is able to see what Gabriel is thinking without being told ., Gabriel thought. The other choices are not even related to the type of third-person used. 2. D Because we see throughout the passage Gabriel climbing into bed, thinking about the events that preceded that night and thinking of how young an age Michael Furey had died at. It can be seen that the final thought sums up all of Gabriels thought throughout the night. 3. E Because this is the end to a story, it is impossible for the passage to use foreshadowing. Nothing happens after this passage is ends. 4. A Because the diction used suggests that Gabriel is unhappy with what has occurred throughout the night; He is not angry at what has happened, only sad that he had not been aware beforehand of all of this. 5. A Because I and II can almost be seen directly in the actual passage. III does not work as Gabriel does not see Michael as a good man, only a brave and passionate one; if anything, he is jealous of Michael for having his wife first. 6. A The rhyme scheme is aba as there are three lines a piece in the tercets, and a villanelle has to follow the pattern of aba. 7. C The words Eucharistic and hymn are commonly associated with a church. The other choices simply do not fit in with the way the poem is written. 8. E Because the poem deals with the difficulty of balancing a life between pure religious devotion and rebelliousness. It never explicitly makes a reference towards sin, only towards the temptation it possesses.

A Because looking at the title, we can see that the subject of this piece is something feminine, words throughout the piece such as seraphim and lavish limbs help portray a feminine image in its stead. 10. E Because a villanelle, which the poem is, consists of five tercets and a quatrain for a total of nineteen lines.
