MOVE FILE
This table contains a list of files to be moved or copied from a specified source directory to a specified destination directory.

The MoveFile table has the following columns. FileKey Component SourceName DestName SourceFolder

DestFolder
Options

MOVE FILE
You can add an operation to copy or move a file on the destination computer during installation. This operation affects files that are already on the destination computer, not files that are part of the installation.

You might copy or move files on the destination computer to reorganize the location of the installation files in a new release.

MOVE FILE
Example:
Your application installed graphic files to C:\Program Files\Application\Graphics, but your latest release installs them to C:\My Documents\Application. You can add an operation to copy or move the existing graphic files from the old directory to the new directory.

File
DestName DestFolder

lPlace the same file in different directories.

lPlace a file in the same directory with a different name.

DUPLICATE FILE
The Duplicate File icon, located on the Features and Components tabs, shows duplicate files for the selected feature or component.

Duplicate files are files that must be copied to more than one location during installation. According to Windows Installer rules, you cannot add the same file multiple times. The Duplicate File icon lets you place the same file in different directories, or place a file in the same directory with a different name.

You can create a duplicate file entry only for files that are already in the installation.

DUPLICATE FILE
Example
Suppose you want to install a .DLL in both your application directory and the System32 directory. First add the .DLL file to your application directory. Then create a Duplicate File item, which copies the .DLL from the application directory to the System32 directory.
