How many sons do you have?

If you time travel back to ancient China and ask a Chinese emperor how many kids he has, you would use du sho: n yu du sho g hi zi? Since Chinese emperors usually way more than 10 kids. n yo du sho shu? How much water do you want?

3. The tone change for number one First, to help understand these tone changing rules easier, please imagine number one is like a self-centered, showy number in the number world. When counting, number one is pronounced as y (first tone). In other situations, the default pronunciation of number one is y(fourth tone), for example, y q=together, y mo=one dime

However, if y is followed by another fourth tone, y feels that its individuality is threatened, so it will change to second tone y, for example, one person: y g rn y g rn one dollor: y kuiy kui
