Accessoria - a one floor or two-floor structure divided into three or more housing units, each housing unit having

its own separate entrance from the outside. Another name for accessoria is row house. Age Dependency Ratio - the percentage of persons in the ages defined as dependent (under 15 and over 65 years old) to those in the ages defined as economically productive (15 to under 65 years) in the population. Apartment - a structure usually of several storeys, with three or more independent entrances from internal halls or courts. An apartment has one common entrance from the outside. Area, Urban - those with the following characteristics: a) In their entirety all cities and municipalities which have a population density of at least 1,000 persons per square kilometer. b) Poblaciones or central districts of municipalities and cities which have a population density of at least 500 persons per square kilometer. c) Poblaciones or central districts (not included in a) and b)), regardless of population size, which have the following: 1) a street pattern, i.e., a network of streets in either at parallel or right angle orientation; 2) at least six establishments (commercial, recreational and/or personal services); and, 3) at least three of the following: a) a town hall, church or chapel with religious service at least once a month; b) a public plaza, park or cemetery; c) a market place or building where trading activities are carried on at least once a week; d) a public building like a school, hospital, puericulture and health center or library. d) Barangays having at least 1,000 inhabitants which meet the conditions set forth in c) and where the occupation of the inhabitants is predominantly non-farming or non-fishing. Area, Rural - all areas not falling under any of the classifications as urban. Building - a structure designed or intended for the enclosure, shelter or protection of any person, animal or property comprising of one or more rooms and/or other spaces, covered by a roof and usually enclosed within external walls or with common dividing walls adjacent buildings, which usually extend from the foundation to the roof. Condominium (Residential) - a high-rise building where the housing units are owned individually but the land, other spaces and facilities are owned n common. Duplex - a structure intended for two households, with complete living facilities for each. It is divided either vertically or horizontally into two separate housing units which are usually identical. Dwelling Unit - one or more habitable rooms which are occupied or which are intended or designated to be occupied by one family with facilities for living, sleeping, cooking and eating.

Hotel, Lodging House, Dormitory, etc. - these are permanent structures which provide lodging and or meals on free basis. Hotels, motels, boarding houses, dormitories, pension and lodging houses fall within this category. Household - a social unit consisting of a person living alone or a group of persons who: a) sleep in the same housing unit; and b) have a common arrangement for the preparation and consumption of food. Household, Institutional - groups of persons living in a collective type of dwelling, such as boarding houses (with 10 or more boarders), hotels, boarding schools and colleges, penal establishments, chronic diseases hospitals, military installations, etc. The household of institutional directors and administrative personnel with separate living quarters are considered as private household. Household, Multi-Person - a group of two or more persons who combine to occupy the whole part of a dwelling unit and to provide themselves with food or other essentials for living. The group may pool their incomes and have a common budget to a greater or lesser extent. The group may be composed of related person only or unrelated persons or a combination of both, including boarders but excluding lodgers. Household, One-Person - a person who makes provisions for his food or other essentials for living without combining with any other person. Household Head - the person responsible for the care and organization of the household. He/She usually provides the chief source of income for the household. In the case of a household consisting of two or more unrelated persons sharing the same cooking facilities and meals, the head is usually the eldest male or female in the group regarded as such by the other members. Household Population - the aggregate of private household population. Compared to total population, this excludes population enumerated in institutional households such as national/provincial/municipal/city jails/detention centers, military camps, tuberculosis pavilions, mental hospitals, leprosaria/leper colonies or drug rehabilitation centers. Household Size - number of usual members in a private household. Housing Unit - a structurally separate and independent place of abode constructed, converted or arranged for habitation by one household. For purposes of the Census on Population and Housing, structures or parts of structures not intended for habitation such as commercial, industrial, and agricultural buildings, or natural and man-made shelters such as caves, boats, abandoned trucks, culverts, etc., but used as living quarters by households are also considered as housing units. Living Quarters - are structurally separate and independent place of abode. These are: a) constructed, built, converted or renovated for human habitation, and at the time of the census not used wholly for other purposes; or b) not really intended as dwelling unit but used as such at the time of the census.

Marital Status - refers tot eh civil status of all persons 10 years old and over. A person in this age group is classified as: a) Single - a person who has never been married b) Married - a person married in a religious or civil ceremony, either living together with the spouse at the time of visit, or temporarily living apart because the spouse is employed elsewhere or is in the Armed Forces, etc. c) Widowed - a married person whose spouse died and who has not remarried up to the time of visit d) Separated/Divorced - a person who is permanently separated from his spouse, legally or through mutual consent or whose marriage with another has been annulled or dissolved and can therefore remarry e) Others - a person living consensually together (by mere consent) as husband and wife without the benefit of a legal marriage f) Unknown - a person whose marital status is not known to the respondent, or whose marital status is being concealed by the respondent. Marriage - a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with the law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. It is the foundation of the family and an inviolable social institution whose nature, consequences, and incidents are governed by law and not subject to stipulation, except that marriage settlements may fix the property relations during marriage within the limits provided by the Family Code of the Philippines. Marriage Rate, Crude - the ratio of the number of marriages occurring in a population during a year to the mid-year population of the same period expressed per 1,000 population. Occasionally, the number of persons marrying during the year, rather than the number of marriage occurring, is employed as the numerator. Migrant - a person who moves from one geographical unit to another, generally involving a change of residence from the place of origin or departure to the place of destination or arrival. If a person enters to take up residence on a specific geographical area by crossing its boundary from some point outside the area then that person is an In-Migrant, if a person changes residence from a specific geographical area to a point outside, then that person is an OutMigrant. Migration, Internal - movement of individuals between two distinct geographic areas within a state or country. Migration - movement from one place of abode to another (especially from one region or country to another) usually with the intention to settle. Migration Rate, In - the ratio of in-migration in given period, normally a calendar year, to the total mid-year population expressed per thousand. Migration Rate, Net - the ratio of the difference between the in-migrants and out-migrants in a population to the mid-year population during the same period.

Migration Rate, Out - the ratio of out-migration in a given period, normally a calendar year, to the total mid-year population expressed per thousand. Mother Tongue - refers to the language/dialect spoken by a person at his earliest childhood or the language/dialect that person first learned to speak. Data on mother tongue are used primarily in the analysis of the ethnic origin of a person long after assimilation to the other customs of the majority population has taken place. Population - covers both nationals and aliens, native and foreign-born persons, intemees, refugees and any other group physically present within the borders of a country at a specified time. In assembling national demographic statistics for publication, the basic aim has been to obtain data for the physically present (or de facto) population rather than for the legally established resident (or de jure) inhabitants. Population Census - the total process of collecting, compiling, evaluating, analyzing and publishing demographic, economic and social data pertaining to all persons in the country or in a well-limited territory. Population Density - the average number of inhabitants/persons per square kilometer of land area. It aims to describe to a certain extent the congestion within a given land area. Population Growth Rate, Annual Average - measure of the annual growth in population stock caused by births and deaths and international migration using the censal years as reference period. Population Projection - arithmetical procedure designed to yield the future size and structure of an initial population by applying assumptions about future changes in growth rates and/or their components. By extension, reverse projections into the past can sometimes be made. Population Pyramid - diagram depicting the age-sex structure of a give population. Sex Ratio - the ratio between males and females in a population expressed in number of males per 100 females. Single House - an independent structure intended for one household, separated by open space or walls from all other structures. It includes the nipa huts, or small houses built more or less as permanent housing unit and the "barong-barong" made of salvaged materials.
