Use the mark scheme below and work in pairs to grade the 4 exemplar pieces of work. You must try and place the work into the correct level. Wherever possible you should use a best fit model, this means that you take an overall view rather than harshly penalising for one fault. There is not much variety in the shots taken , but for this magazine the mid shots work and there doesnt need to be any long shots to make it effective . Yes I can clearly tell from the material used that the magazine is based on the pop genre . And the photos match the target audience . The mise en scene is excellent , the brightness and colour of the photos is excellent , and the setting and lighting reflects the models well . The front cover shot is taken perfectly so there is no need to crop any part of the photo , but the top right photo of the contents lets it down slightly as the arm is raised and the hand is cropped out . This is appropriately integrated text and image as everything is aligned well and is separated excellently . Yes , the layout of the double page spread is very well thought out and the layout works very well and suits the magazine . Minimal Level 1 10 23 marks framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate Basic Level 2 2435 marks The framing of the shot for this magazine is very basic , and not to a high quality , the way it is on the page makes it distorted . There is not much variety in the shots taken , they are very basic mid shots to a very poor quality . I think the shooting material was relatively appropriate to the task set , it is was a hip-hop genre and the photos where taken with walls of graffiti . The Mise on scene for this magazine is awful , there are way to many colours on the front cover that are irrelevant to the genre , the lighting and setting are relevant but are nothing special . The manipulation of the photographs for this magazine are dreadful , the colour borders do not work , and the tilting of the pictures make the magazine look tacky . The language is very informal and would not be seen on a magazine , but also the language choice used are relevant to the genre they are going for . the images that are on the contents page , but the images are not put with the main headlines and page numbers they are given so it makes the page look messy . They have shown an understanding of how a magazine layout looks , but they are way off the mark with the way they have structured their magazine with the pictures and the texts . They have a few fonts but not much of a variety , they all seem to look the same , and really are very hard to read and understand , and the main headlines are not big or clear enough to read. I think ICT has been used very poorly here , no editing or quality use of the editorial programmes have been used well , and from the photos this is clear .

Basic Level 2 2435 marks The framing of this magazine is not the best quality as the main image is not centralised and there is a black line across the top picture on the contents page . Also the shadow on the main image is very ineffective and the front cover is way too busy . The images for this magazine are terrible , they are mostly long shots with not much variety of what genre the magazine Is . The shooting material lets this magazine down , as from the photos , there is no clear indication of what the genre of the magazine . The mise en scene for this magazine is okay , the lightings is very effective but the costumes let it down as they dont give a clear indication , and the clothes worn are chavvy and boring . The cropping on this magazine is not very good , this is clear from the picture on the lad on the contents page as it hasnt been cropped to get rid of the black border . The language register for this magazine is average , the

But the font sizing needs work . Yes , the layout of the double page spread is very well thought out and the layout works very well and suits the magazine . If it was purely based on fonts then this would be a level 3 as there are many good fonts on the page , perhaps too many . But the sizing of the fonts is all over the place and doesnt work . The shooting material for this magazine is appalling , it is suppose to be a dubstep magazine , yet there is a lad playing a guitar , and the girl wearing the headphones could be listening to anything . The mise en scene is okay , the costumes and props are a huge let down for the magazine , but the lighting and setting work and make a good photo . Yes , the layout of the double page spread is very well thought out and the layout works very well and suits the magazine . Magazine title: X ( mollys magazine )

Minimal Level 1 10 23 marks framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate Basic Level 2 2435 marks Proficiency Level 3 3647 marks Molly has framed her shots excellently , especially the front cover , its a very simplistic but gripping photo that entices the reader . This element massively lets mollys magazine down , she has only used mid-shots throughout the magazine , which makes it boring and gives it no originality . Mollys shooting material is okay , it fits the genre as the poses the model is doing are comedic and quirky giving it that pop feel . Mollys mise-enscene is fairly similar to Matts very good , and the use of lighting and colour brings out the photo and works very well . To improve though ,s he could add the use of props like a microphone to give her some variety Its clear that molly has used cropping very effectively to get the best from her photos on all three pages of her magazine , and has resized them well to fit correctly . The language used fits the genre of the magazine and also the informal language register

fits well with the target audience . This is done well , molly has kept it simple at not packed all of her pages full and overcrowded it , so the text is not overlapping the photos . The layout of mollys double page spread could improve , I feel as the quote above the picture does not work and ruins the page . But in other places its to okay quality . I feel the font used for the title and main stories of the pages is dreadful , the colour is wrong and it is very difficult to read and understand . ICT has been used appropriately , and the use of all the editing programmes have been key to the success of the magazine.

The framing of the shot is good as it is very central and the model is making eye contact with the reader .

Excellence Level 4 4860 marks

There were two different varieties of shots used , a mid shot , and a close up , but there was no long shot used in the magazine which let it down . Yes I can clearly tell from the material used that the magazine is based on the indie genre . And the photos match the target audience . The lighting for the photo-shoot is good; the purposeful shadow I used on the contents page photo is effective. The colour is good as it uses vibrant colours that suit the indie style I wanted. But the setting maybe the downfall . All the photos used , have been cropped and resized well . However if I was being picky , the photo on the contents page could be resized to a better quality . The language register is addressed to the right genre , but the titles of band names could be accentuated and made to stand out more .

This works well as the font matches the genre of the magazine. However the colours of the text need to change on the front cover or placement as the white font over the image looks out of place and ruins the style of the magazine . The layout and page layering is good as it all fits well , and the placement works well . I have used more than three fonts in the magazine which is unprofessional . Fonts sizes are too big and text is limited . ICT has been used appropriately , and the use of all the editing programmes have been key to the success of the magazine.
