Digestive System - the system that makes food absorbable into the body.

The Parts of Digestive System

Tongue - the fleshy muscular organ in the mouth of a mammal, used for tasting, licking, swallowing, (in humans) articulating speech. Salivary Glands exocrine glands, or glands with ducts, that produce saliva. Parotid Gland - a major salivary gland in humans. It is a bilateral structure and the largest of the salivary glands. Sublingual Gland - a small salivary gland that produces main (the viscous component of saliva) in human beings it is located on either side of the mouth. Submandibular Gland - a salivary gland inside the lower jaw on either side that produces most of the nocturnal saliva. Ileum of small intestine - the terminal portion of the small intestine extending from the jejunum to the cecum. Cecum - a pouch connected to the junction of the small and large intestines. Appendix - a tube-shaped sac attached to and opening into the lower end of the large intestine in humans. Liver - a large lobed glandular organ in the abdomen of vertebrates, involved in processing digestive products, neutralizing toxins, and other.

Gall Bladder - the small sac-shaped organ beneath the liver, in which bile is stored after secretion by the liver and before release into the intestine. Pancreas - a large gland behind the stomach that secretes digestive enzymes into the duodenum. Rectum - the final section of the large intestine, terminating at the anus. Oral Cavity - the part of the mouth behind the teeth and gums that is bounded above by the hard and soft palates and below by the tongue and the mucous membrane connecting it with the inner part of the mandible. Pharynx - the membrane-lined cavity behind the nose and mouth, connecting them to the esophagus. Esophagus - the part of the alimentary canal that connects the throat to the stomach. Cardiac Orifice -the cardiac is the anatomical term for the part of the stomach attached to the esophagus. Pyloric Sphincter - the sphincter muscle of the pylorus that separates the stomach from the duodenum. Stomach - the enlarged, saclike portion of the alimentary canal, one of the principal organs of digestion, located in vertebrates between the esophagus and the small intestine. Duodenum of Small Intestine - the first section of the small intestine in most higher vertebrates.

Small Intestine - the part of the intestine that runs between the stomach and the large intestine; the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum collectively. Large Intestine - the portion of the intestine that extends from the ileum to the anus, forming an arch around the convolutions of the small intestine and including the cecum, colon, rectum, and anal canal. Anus - the opening at the lower end of the alimentary canal through which solid waste is eliminated from the body.
