Do you think assistance should be mandatory in college?

One of the most common areas where classroom practices of colleges or universities differ is attendance policy. Some universities require their students to attend all classes, while others leave it as an option. In my opinion, attendance should be optional because it encourages students responsibility, gives them more fle!ibility and contributes with the learning process. "he first reason for this is that optional attendance encourages students to be more responsible. #henever students are given the choice to do something, it depends on their level of maturity to make the best decision. $or e!ample, research indicates that at the ages of %&'(%, personality and brain development has already reached a stage of maturity. )onsequently, students can make rational decisions about prioriti*ing what s most important in their lives, and learn that there are consequences to their choices. +oreover, it is said that, ,If you treat people like children, they may act like children., Illustrating this, we can see every day that the more you give to children the less gratitude they have and they do not appreciate or value the work their parents do in order to provide them with everything. $urthermore, -niversities are supposed to be the educational institutions that prepare students for real life. $or instance, if you were responsible enough at university to make good decisions, you will most probably be responsible at work. .ence, that optional attendance encourages students to be more responsible. "he second reason is that it gives students fle!ibility. Sometimes students cannot e!press their abilities and skills in other university/s activities because they have to attend classes, and they miss important events in activities such as Sport, drama, etc. $or e!ample, a talented basketball player cannot participate in the final game of an important tournament because he is compelled to attend a class0 he would have missed a great opportunity in his sport career0 hence, it would not be beneficial for both students and universities. 1esides, 234 of students have other obligations. 5ach student is a person who has a totally different history with different e!periences in life and different issues to deal with. $or instance, students that have to work long hours to pay their studies are sometimes unable to attend classes, or parents who have to take care of the family, work and also study, may miss classes for reasons that are beyond their control. $or this, "he second reason is that it gives students fle!ibility. Sometimes students cannot e!press their abilities and skills in other university/s activities because they have to attend classes, and they miss important events in activities such as Sport, drama, etc. $inally, it gives meaningful contribution to the learning process. Students can concentrate more. 5vidence shows that learning is more productive with more concentration. If a student had an important business but was forced to go to a class he would be thinking about that all the class and will not pay attention. +oreover, students do not benefit from forced attendance. $orced students do not give a significant contribution to a class0 on the other hand, they may cause disruption in the classroom by distracting other students or sending te!t messages with their cell phones. Students easily focus on what the teacher is e!plaining when the classroom is quiet and everyone is willing to learn. .ence, it gives meaningful contribution to the learning process. Students can concentrate more. On the whole, -niversities should make attendance optional so that students can learn to

be more responsible, have a more fle!ible schedule and also learn better. I strongly believe that students who are really interested in studying will definitely attend classes without being forced.

6re you in favor or against government/s determination that prohibit schools to fail a student? "he recent government statements about prohibiting schools to fail student has risen different opinions on the matter. Some agree with the decision, however others affirm that this decision could strongly affect the level of education in 1olivia. I personally disagree with these measure. $irst of all, the lack of pressure on the students will decrease their level of education. One of the reasons students were force to study was the utter fact that if they did not, they would have to repeat the school year. If students cannot fail, then they would not be pressure to study and many of them would not make an effort in school. $or e!ample, many students affirmed that they make the smallest effort in school in order to pass, and we can imagine that if they cannot fail then not even the smallest effort would be made. $urthermore, students that actually make an effort and study hard will feel discourage. $or e!ample, a good student will not appreciate that a student with bad grades and that does not show any sign of learning still gets to pass the year. +oreover, teachers will also feel discourage since they have to go against what is right and still approve a student who probably did not accomplished what he had to. $or instance, teachers would have to accept that a student who did not meet the standards of a certain level of education still goes forward to the ne!t grade. "his will ultimately result in a disadvantage to the other students. .ence, the lack of pressure on the students will decrease their level of education. Secondly, the number of students entering to universities will increase and ultimately universities will not be able to handle this situation. If students are able to pass on without failing then there would be more graduates wanting to enter university and this will make it more difficult for public universities to have enough resources. $or instance, now there are %7,777 applicants of public university however if there is no failing policy this number will increase in a %774. $urthermore, there would be more cheating and corruption in university applications. $or e!ample, nowadays there are reports that students try to cheat in order to enter college and we can only imagine that this would increase if this policy is created. +oreover universities will need to have more resources in order to satisfy students and this can create a political problem. $or instance, annual university budget depends on the different ta!es the government recollects. It will definitely create a problem if more money is needed than the amount already generated. $or this, the number of students entering to universities will increase and ultimately universities will not be able to handle this situation. 8astly, if students get a free pass then there would be fewer professional with high quality standards. Since students will be able to pass without any problem, then there would be more people with low education standards going into university. "his will result in professional with also less quality standards. $or instance, it is well known that students

with a good education in school are the ones with no problems in university. +oreover, university classes are not going to change their level and more and more students will fail at university rather than in school. $or instance, there is a 374 of failure in the first year of university. $urthermore, more students will apply to technical careers. "his will result in less e!perience and more people unable to handle high ranking 9obs. $or this, if students get a free pass then there would be fewer professional with high quality standards. In conclusion I disagree with these measure because, the lack of pressure on the students will decrease their level of education. One of the reasons students were force to study was the utter fact that if they did not, they would have to repeat the school year, the number of students entering to universities will increase and ultimately universities will not be able to handle this situation and if students get a free pass then there would be fewer professional with high quality standards.
