Introduce a map of the United States to the students Discuss the differences between a town/city, state, and country. Discuss what community, state, and country the students live in.

2. As a class, read p. 66-69, using the questions in the margins to help engage the students 3. Have students work in partners to find different places on a map o o o Have students locate and identify where they live (town, state, country) Have students locate places they have visited Have students locate the different continents

H. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will measure student understanding by using the lesson review. I will have the students answer the questions on p.69 Writing a sentence that tells where you live and show by coloring the country, state, and continents on a map They will do the activity on p.69- write on an envelope with their address and a friends address. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students will be able say and write down their address and be able to identify different places on a map. They are able to do this by being able to write and identify the different locations.

I.

Closure: Ticket out the door- Complete the study guide activity.

J. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? Teaching students what a state and city is and where we live. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I think students grasping what a country is may seem the most challenging for me because some students dont understand it. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I will follow up with students sending a letter to a family member or a friend that lives in another state and city and have them address the envelope. I will also have students

go home and talk with their families to see where other relatives live and where their relatives come from and write down on a paper and color on the map. 4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who may not grasp the concept I will pull them back for small group and work on a small chunk at a time using different manipulative and technology for more interaction with the concept. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? The only part of the lesson I may need to change is to alter things for students who may be low learners, students with IEP goals or students with disabilities and students who are higher level learners. Change things to make it simpler to understand or a little more challenging for students who can handle it. Having the students who are higher level going on MapQuest or google maps after and looking up places and locating it on a physical map. Students who are lower level learners or students with disabilities doing small group or altering the way I give the activity to them. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The assessment part was the most difficult for both my partner and myself as assessment is always a difficult part because you have to make sure you hit your objectives and state standards. You have to make sure your assessments are geared for all learners in our class and having to modify or accommodate students who need it can be tricky because you still want to know if they are learning the material you taught.

7. Describe your experience collaborating on this lesson plan. When doing this lesson with Ashley gave me some really good experience because I had to work with her and come up with what grade, subject and what we would actually pin point. It gives you good experience for when I start teaching because you do have to collaborate with your grade level teachers and come to a common goal of what you will be teaching. It also was a great expereince to have someone elses input and ideas to go off of and make sure we had everything we needed for our lesson.
