START AND FINISH: The Water Witch pub-Park with care in the road or in the car park
across the canal bridge.
Cross the bridge and TR down to the canal towpath and continue SO. Pass under the busy
road bridge carrying the A287. There are signs here of tree cutting and where the canal
provides a useful way of taking away the timber by water. You will reach the frst of two elegant
canal bridges. Cross over the bridge and TL onto the footpath through trees along the top of
the canal bank. You will reach another canal bridge very shortly.
Here TR along a fenced muddy track to Sprats Hatch Farm. TR at the road bend along a well
defned track where wood chippings and split logs make the walking easy under foot. Continue
SO with large bulls and Highland cattle (comfortably fenced away from you) to photograph
and marvel at. At a junction TR sharply along a well signed footpath to reach a raised mound
with a paved path and platform.
Continue SO past a large landscaped lake and a large lion garden ornament through a wood
now on a frm drive to reach the main road A287. Cross the road with care and TL about
150m to reach a FP sign in the drive of a house Lothams PennyCum. Follow the FP through
the wood for about 300m and at the end TR and continue across two felds to a footbridge
in the feld corner.
Note. If the wood path is fooded retrace your steps and walk carefully along the road towards
Odiham. You will see a side road coming in from the left. TL along this for 100m to a FP marker.
Cross the stile to reach the corner footbridge as indicated above.
P lease observe the Country Code, closing gates after you and keeping dogs on a leash where there are grazing
animals and taking care when crossing roads.

Hi Claire, tell us about homeopathy...
Homeopathy is an alternative natural medicine which has been used
worldwide for over 200 years. Homeopathic medicine treats the person
as a whole, rather than treating specifc conditions in isolation. For example,
if you were suffering from claustrophobia, depression and back ache, the
conventional route might involve separate courses of treatment from different
specialists; by contrast a homeopath will consider all symptoms together as a whole, and prescribe
a single medicine.
What are the remedies made from, who can take them and are there any side effects?
Homeopathic medicines (known as remedies) are made from animal, mineral and plant substances.
Homeopaths prescribe remedies based on the ancient principle of like cures like, where a substance
which can cause symptoms in a healthy person when taken in large doses, can be used in small
amounts to treat those same symptoms in a sick person. Homeopathic treatment has an excellent
safety record, there are no side effects and because they are non-toxic everyone can use them.

What made you follow a career in homeopathy?

I frst discovered homeopathy as a patient. After suffering with a variety of persistent symptoms
throughout most of my childhood and teens, for which conventional medicine was unable to help
me, I tried a homeopath. The results were amazing! After four years training, I qualifed with a
degree level Licentiate in Classical Homeopathy and began practicing in 2006. Im just completing
a one year course in Advanced Homeopathy called the Sensation Method. I am a fully registered
and insured member of The Society of Homeopaths.
Who do you treat and how can people book an appointment?
I offer consultations for men, women, teenagers, babies and children. There are many testimonials
on my website which detail their experiences. Appointments are available on Wednesdays,
Thursdays and Fridays and cost adults: 70 (frst appointment), 50 (thereafter) and Children: 55
(frst appointment) 45 (thereafter). To book an appointment or for more information, please call
or email.
What do you love about your work? Are there any challenges?
I love meeting new people of all ages from newborns through to the elderly, all with different life
experiences, and symptoms. To see these patients recover after homeopathic treatment when they
had been feeling unhappy or unwell, or had physical symptoms they couldnt seem to shift, is just so
rewarding. Finding the perfect prescription out of thousands of homeopathic remedies is my goal,
and this can be challenging, but worth it for the positive results.

What do you love about living in the village?
I love that we have everything we need within walking distance. A few years ago when it snowed
and I couldnt use the car, I learned to appreciate Odiham even more it didnt matter whether it
was schools, dentists, opticians, hair appointments, places to meet for coffee or lunch, cards and gifts
to buy, or packages to post we have everything right here on our doorstep and surrounded

In this secial Home and Garden ediion
of the magazine, we seak to Nicola
Baily Gibson at Moutan In and Out.
NICOLA, TELL US ABOUT MOUTAN IN AND OUT AND HOW
THE BUSINESS STARTED.
The business started in November 2012. Our passion for gorgeous
plants and wanting a larger space to showcase our design ideas
drove us to establish the shop. We wanted to start workshops such
as planting stylish seasonal containers for the garden, creating a herb or cutting garden, through to
making your own seasonal wreath.
WHAT DO YOU SELL AND WHATS POPULAR?
We sell plants, pots, furniture, vintage items and gifts. They are all things that we love which we hope
our customers appreciate too. Planted pots and baskets with a rustic feel are always popular.
DO YOU OFFER ANY SERVICES BESIDES THE SHOP?
We design gardens which will enhance your home with colour and structure all year. Whether you
are struggling with a diffcult patch in your garden or need a complete overhaul we are able to help
you achieve a fourishing garden.
We offer garden visits for advice on how to get started and how you can develop your garden.
Plants can be ordered that are different
to those offered in garden centres. Be
it an unusual cultivar you have been
coveting or a mature tree to fll a large
gap; all from specialist local nurseries.
We can also fnd unique fnishing
touches for your garden such as
furniture, water features and sculpture
that make wonderful additions.
DO YOU HAVE OTHER SHOPS IN
THE AREA?
We have two forist shops in Odiham
and Hartley Wintney villages. Weddings,
events and gifts are our specialities
using an ever-changing array of fresh
blooms.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR WORK? ARE THERE ANY CHALLENGES?
We love meeting new clients and helping them to create something beautiful in their gardens
that they will enjoy. So many people are worried about getting it wrong, particularly with plants.
Its great to see the recent interest in growing your own and gardening in general. We enjoy being
outside and watching plants grow and change with the seasons. Our weather is probably the biggest
challenge and telling a client they have too many sheds!

Inside Out
Dr. Charlotte Macgregor
In the midst of dreary weather were probably all wishing for the
brighter days of early spring. As the celebrations of New Year fade into
the background, our focus tends to move towards getting our house
and garden in order. A good old fashioned spring clean might not fll
us all with excitement, but theres something about taking stock, paying
attention to those things that we tend not to focus on routinely, that can
give us a little reassurance as we move forward. And the same goes with
our emotional and mental wellbeing.
Taking stock emotionally and mentally entails paying attention to how
we are feeling, perhaps focussing on those routines and practices that
seem to foster wellbeing, and those that seem to reinforce less positive
experience. Too often people think of their emotional lives as something
almost outside of their control. Yet the relationships that we choose,
the attitudes that we hold towards ourselves and other people and our
routine daily behaviours are all vital components of how we feel. Thats
why taking stock of both the internal and external aspects of our lives is
equally important if we are to make choices that serve us well.

Look after your bricks and mortar!
Spring is the perfect time to check how
well your bricks and mortar withstood the
wettest winter since records began. Cracks in
brickwork or crumbling mortar are signs of
moisture penetration, so for peace of mind,
its best to get it checked and repaired, ready
for next winter.

HART CARPET CARE
TREAT YOUR CARPETS
Vacuum regularly with a good
quality hoover (we like Miele &
Dyson). Invest in some dirt trap
mats (we like Turtle Mats). Deal
with stains and spillages when
they happen. Treat your carpets to
a regular professional deep steam
clean; theyll last longer, look
better and smell fresher than ever.

The children will make their own passports and spend a week fnding out what
is special about their country, tasting different foods and enjoying new
experiences.
We are very lucky to have Jim Bernadin World Music workshops for all the
children to participate in during the week.
Our PTA are supporting us as always, and have arranged for us to take part in
the Cash for Coins scheme. Children have been asked to collect any coins they
can to bring to school, old, new or even foreign coins can be collected, and 98p
out of every pound raised will go directly to the school.
Children are being encouraged to look closely
at the different coins and identify where
they are from. At the end of the week
the children will take the coins to
plot them on a huge world map. Mrs
Forbes (PTA Chairperson) has been
visiting each class weekly and is
keeping a tally of the weight of
the coins collected so far. There
will also be a prize for the most
unusual coin!
Children in Early Years classes
have been learning about UK
coins and have had to buy their
morning snacks by selecting the
right coins.
Each class has chosen a place to fnd out about: Maple Class Australia,
