AGENCY

OBSERVATIONS Diagnosed with schizophrenia, takes daily medication. Friends and support networks are located in Foxtrot. Loss of appetite, cries very easily. Majids schizophrenia leaves him vulnerable to bullying and intimidation. It is strongly recommended he be moved to Foxtrot compound where his friends from the CLV boat will create a protective factor. Continued isolation will lead to disintegration of his mental health.

UPDATE: TSA Majid has been relocated to Foxtrot compound. The only bed available was in P block. Before he was relocated TSA described the difficult conditions of P block and allowed him to decide what he wanted to do (as a way of giving him some control in his life). He chose to relocate. Majid presents as more relaxed. He makes eye contact, smiles more readily. He says he is enjoying the space to walk and visit friends He is still eating only one meal a day Work to be done to encourage him to engage in activities. He isnt attending English classes.

ACTION IHMS and TSA will continue to engage.

IHMS ACTION

UPDATE AGENCY OBSERVATIONS

Omer is one of the two most vulnerable clients in the centre. There is the possibility of suicide in the longer term but not does not seem to be an imminent issue. His mental state is rapidly deteriorating. He displays acute distress, and detention fatigue even though he has been here a short period. He unravelled after only one week in the centre. He has a lack of coping mechanisms. - His anti-depressant medication has been increased. His state is so acute IHMS can only do the basics. He is fixated on obtaining an MP3 player, dictionary, footwear. He views not having shoes as an injustice. MH team see him daily for medication. - He has protective factors his religion and family. He feels shame at being in the MIRPC as he cannot provide for his family - referred to the walking group. PRESENTING CASE

TSA Omar rated his mood over the last 24 hours as 4/10 and he noted that this was an improvement for him. He was tearful at times throughout the interview (particularly when discussing his family) but he was also able to smile/laugh at other moments. He noted that his medication was making him sleepy, but he is continuing to take it as directed and he explained that it was "allowing him to be his old self at times" Omer was able to clearly articulate goals/achievements. He was proud that he had recently been able to quit smoking. His focus was now on learning English to the best of his ability. Omar continually requested an MP3 player as he felt that music was essential for his mental health. He was informed that it was unlikely that this request could be granted at this time. He has not received a new pair of shoes (but this does not seem to be the major issues that it has been for him in the past) Omer thought that he had an appointment with a STTARS. However, there is no record of this on the STARS database. IHMS His anxiety reducing medication (taken at night) is making him sleepy. He takes an antidepressant in the morning which gives him a boost. He is responding well to the medication and is compliant. IHMS is still concerned that he isnt contacting his family.

TSA Will continue to engage weekly Follow up on shoes Encourage him to contact his family as a protective factor IHMS Continue to monitor Check if a STTARS referral has been made REMOVE FROM CPPM

DIBP It is not uncommon for transferees to keep the reality of their situation concealed from their families. This is due to shame, primarily from not being able to send money home

UPDATE AGENCY OBSERVATIONS

Alleged UAM, feeling threatened Sarmad reported Iranian men (Oscar 4) had sexual intentions towards him. He stated there is a lot of talk within the compound about sexual activity. He stated he overheard them saying "You are on our list". He stated at no time has there been any touching. PRESENTING CASE Sarmad is being housed in Mike compound, but separated from the other two UAMs. He reported he is seventeen and half years old. He states he feels safe now that he is away from the intimidation. Sarmad appears to give open and honest answers to all questions. Eye contact and voice levels are appropriate and rapport is developed quickly. Sarmad presents with insight into his situation, and shows no outward signs of trauma.

TSA Sarmad will be moved today to Delta compound. A safety plan has been developed. (exit points, areas to avoid etc) IHMS Due to see him tomorrow. He didnt disclose his feelings during previous engagement, perhaps because the IHMS staff member was female. No signs of any physical abuse. DIBP What is the procedure for deterrence? G4S There is no perpetrator; it is an environmental issue. The corrective strategy is to place him in a less risky situation.
