Negative Health Implications of Breakfast Skipping


1. LOWER COGNITION A 2005 Journal of the American Dietetic Association review of 47 breakfast related studies found that eating breakfast is likely to improve cognitive function related to memory and test grades. 2. OBESITY Since you fast overnight while sleeping, forgoing breakfast adds to this fasting period & may disrupt blood sugar balance & insulin outputs. It may also trigger bad eating habits such as craving ensue and binge eating. 3. MENSTRUAL IRREGULARITIES Women of college age are still undergoing post adolescent maturation and skipping breakfast negatively impacts this growing stage. A recent study notes that female college students who constantly skipped breakfast had more menstrual irregularities and severe dysmenorrhea 4.BAD MOOD A moody temperament is noted to improve when breakfast is consumed, according to a 2002 BBC News World Edition article. The article survey noted that 26 percent of people experienced large improvements in mood when changes were made in diet, such as consuming breakfast regularly. 5. DIABETES A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that women who skipped breakfast even once a week were 20 percent more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who ate a meal every morning. 6. HEART DISEASES Eating breakfast was associated with a lower incidence of heart disease in men between ages 45 and 82, according to a study in the journal Circulation. The study also found that skipping breakfast was associated with hypertension, insulin resistance and elevated blood sugar levels.

WHY EAT BREAKFAST?

When we eat our last meal at around 7-8 am, we go about 12 hours or so without food until we eat out breakfast which breaks this fast! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because that early morning booster increases the metabolic rate and kick starts your body into gear!
