Task 4 What types of magazine and target audiences has IPC been associated with over the years?

At first, IPC was aimed more to the young mens market and were probably upper middle class since it was in the 1800s then became more towards both genders with the inclusion of more womens magazines in the 1920s such as womans weekly and look IPC has been associated with home owner magazines, magazines aimed at women who have free time and are in tune with their homes. Sporting magazines such as world soccer. Magazines for the country side and sophisticated magazines meaning that they have magazines that appeal to teens but also have magazines for adults, mothers and sporting people. First published a music magazine in the 1950s as a specialist magazine. The audience had been expanded wider thanks to the niche market.

Why might IPC be an appropriate publisher for a new music magazine? They already publish a lot of magazines so they will be well recognized. Their website is well organized so it would be easy to find the magazine I make if on the website. They also seem to advertise to both males and females with the types of magazines they have such as look or golf monthly. They also have a mass market for a variety of people through publishing and advertising. Focus more on niche market so people will know about them. Publish music magazines of different genres so it would be easy to get any type published while still getting people to see it.

What sorts of genres of music/types of magazines might they be likely to publish? They dont do many music magazines but they do for rock bands in the magazine uncut and NME which has a variety of music genres aimed at 16-24 year olds. The magazines appear to be aimed more towards the young male demographic. NME is known as the most popular music magazine in the world and uses a variety of platforms so it reaches out to a wider audience. Mostly rock and RNB music which appears more to teens.

Why might alternative publishers like Bauer be appropriate? Bauer advertise a wider range of music magazines such as Kerrang, cool FM and others. The target audience for their published magazines seems to be aimed more at males. Their advertising view has a 360 degree view across all brands and advertises music magazines and sites which are well known such as 4music. Their music magazines are linked with radio stations so more people will know about it. More development on music magazines than IPC as they have ones for rock, pop and others. Bauer also have advertisement on radio stations which can help promote and sell the magazine since more people would listen to the radio and get the information form there.
