Legal & Ethical

Legal and Ethical is about the protection of you and the brand, laws and regulations are in place which are the rules to regulate society but the internet is a digital society so the laws and rules arent always followed people dont see it was a real society.

Copyright laws
Copyright gives the author of certain types of material rights to control the use or commercial exploitation of the work that he or she has created. This includes rights to authorise or prohibit the copying, issuing of copies, renting or lending, performing, showing, playing, broadcasting or adaptation of the copyright material. Copyright is a mechanism for protection for something called intellectual property (logos, designs, blueprints, words, photographs, videos, music), any materials that are not unique need a reference, things that are protected normally have commercial value,. The copyright law, also known as the Statute of Anne, began in 1709 but only came into force later in 1710. It was passed by the Anglo-Scottish Union parliament which came into being in 1707 with the uniting of the parliaments of England and Scotland. Copyright are exclusive rights granted to the creator of an original work, including the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work.

Defamation
Definition The action of harming or damaging the reputation of someones character using either Libe l (Written) or Slander (Spoken) so everyone on my website will have to be presented in a way this isnt going to damage their reputation and doesnt put the creator of the website at risk

Protection of children & privacy of the public


This includes not using images of children inappropriately, allowing children to access inappropriate sites, also that the public arent exploited in anyway. My website cant contain any inappropriate content, it would try and restrict access to people under the age of 14, and there would be a system admin and admin tools to monitor comments and other posts.

In 1998 the controversial US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) placed obligations on websites with content for children to adopt and publicize a privacy policy, and obtain the consent of parents of children under 13 years of age before collecting or disclosing personal information from them. Direct parental consent must also be obtained if the sites offer access to third parties through chat rooms, email and instant messaging.

Privacy The Data Protection Act to keep anyones personal details (Comments, images, emails, subscription, data ie phone number, address, dob etc.) private through protection such as personal questions, email addresses only things the owner would know.

Ethical ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) Not everything is regulated (code of practice) but somethings certain things including products & services are. Products have to be truthful and cannot claim anything that isnt true about their product.
