Introduction
This edition of Publishing Options: An Authors Guide to Journals is the next iteration of three earlier volumesthe first compiled in 1981 by Lawrence J. Rhoades, the second updated by Bettina J. Huber in 1984, and the third updated by Carla B. Howery in 1991. While the third edition was out of print for nearly 15 years prior to the first new e-book edition in 2009, the ASA continued to receive many requests for a copyand questions about whether the Association intended to update it. While the dynamic nature of journal publishing is such that a volume like Publishing Options becomes outdated in a very short time, the decision was made instead to develop an online database for listingsa process allowing publishers and editors to periodically update their journals and ASA to periodically produce new e-book versions of those listings. This volume is the result. Any directory based on an online database by its very definition will not be error-free. While ASA staff made every attempt to resolve errors in data and download, the accuracy and timeliness of each journals listing depends on frequent updating. Publishers and editors who entered their journals into the online database are both extended the Associations gratitude and also a request to update your listing directly if any errors appear in this volume. The online database is available both for updating and for new journal entries at http://www.asanet.org/journals/PublishingOptions.cfm/. As project manager for Publishing Options, I have a few important acknowledgments: Finding a way to update Publishing Options was a goal for many years that I shared with the late Carla B. Howery (long-time director of the ASA Academic and Professor Affairs Program and ASA deputy executive officeras well as my dear friend and colleague). This project and volume were completed unfortunately without her, but would not have been possible without her. Jamie Panzarella, Publications and Copyright Coordinator, was indispensable in working through the process and the procedures to get from start to finish. Thanks are also due to Robin Licata, ASAs database and web manager in 2009, and Michelle Dupray, ASAs current webmaster, for developing and updating the online database. Dialectical Anthropology
Journal Website: Publisher/Sponsor: Publisher/Sponsor Website: Mission/Aim: www.springer.com/10624 Springer www.springer.com Dialectical Anthropology is an international journal that seeks to invigorate discussion among left intellectuals by publishing peer-reviewed articles, editorials, letters, reports from the field, political exchanges, and book reviews that foster open debate through criticism, research and commentary from across the social sciences and humanities. We provide a forum for work with a pronounced dialectical approach to social theory and political practice for scholars and activists working in Marxist and broadly political-economic traditions, and those who wish to be in dialogue or debate with these traditions. Since its founding by Stanley Diamond in 1975, Dialectical Anthropology has been dedicated to the transformation of class society through internationalizing conversations about the stakes of contemporary crises and the means for social change. For three decades, the pages of the journal have provided space for comment, criticism, agreement, and disagreement about significant issues of our times. Dialectical Anthropology is committed to reaching beyond an Anglophone readership via submissions, dialogue and active participation in languages other than English, and an editorial policy that promotes collaborations beyond the traditional concerns of Western academics. 0304-4902 Quarterly 10000 1975 Print & Online Kirk Dombrowski, Anthony Marcus, Ananthakrishnan Aiyer (through December 31, 2012) John Jay College (CUNY), Department of Anthropology, 899 Tenth Avenue, New York, NY 10019 Collective Behavior/Social Movements, Community and Urban Sociology, Labor and Labor Movements, Marxist Sociology, Methodology, Peace/War/Social Conflict, Political Economy of the World-System, Political Sociology, Race/Gender/Class Comparative/Cross Cultural, Evaluation, Interdisciplinary, Review of Literature, Social Issues Mail: Email: Online: www.editorialmanager.com/dial Average manuscript length (pages): 40 Style: American Psychological Association Disk required for mail submissions: Submission fee: $ Page charges: Complimentary copies to authors: Yes Manuscripts received annually: 40 Acceptance rate (percentage): 75 Average review time (in weeks): 10 Production lag (in months): 6

Feminist Criminology
Journal Website: Publisher/Sponsor: Publisher/Sponsor Website: Mission/Aim: http://fcx.sagepub.com/ SAGE http://www.sagepub.com/home.nav The main aim of Feminist Criminology is to focus on research related to women, girls and crime. The scope includes research on women working in the criminal justice profession, women as offenders and how they are dealt with in the criminal justice system, women as victims, and theories and tests of theories related to women and crime. The feminist critique of criminology incorporates a perspective that the paths to crime differ for males and females, thus research that uses sex as a control variable often fails to illuminate the factors that predict female criminality. This journal will highlight research that takes a perspective designed to demonstrate the gendered nature of crime and responses to crime. The main focus of the journal will be empirical research and theory, although the editor welcomes practice-oriented manuscripts. 1557-0851 Quarterly 4600 2006 Print & Online Jana L. Modern China
Journal Website: Publisher/Sponsor: Publisher/Sponsor Website: Mission/Aim: http://mcx.sagepub.com/ SAGE http://www.sagepub.com/home.nav Published for over thirty years, Modern China has been an indispensable source of scholarship in history and the social sciences on late-imperial, twentiethcentury, and present-day China. Modern China presents scholarship based on new research or research that is devoted to new interpretations, new questions, and new answers to old questions. Spanning the full sweep of Chinese studies of six centuries, Modern China encourages scholarship that crosses over the old "premodern/modern" and "modern/contemporary" divides. In addition to research articles, Modern China presents periodic symposia on important topics in Chinese studies, critical essays on the state of Chinese studies, in-depth review articles on particular areas of scholarship, and reviews of books of unusual quality and significance. 0097-7004 Bi-Monthly 4600 1975 Print & Online Philip C. Social Problems
Journal Website: Publisher/Sponsor: Publisher/Sponsor Website: Mission/Aim: http://www.sssp1.org University of California Press http://www.ucpress.org Social Problems publishes scholarship that is intellectually challenging, academically rigorous and of interest to a wide and diverse sociological audience. The range of topics covered by articles in the journal is as broad as the range of problems that confront the social condition. There are several things that a paper published in this journal should do. It should first establish that it is dealing with a meaningful social problem. Why is the issue important? Why does it matter? It should also have or develop a clear theoretical focus. What broader ideas does the current work speak to and help to clarify, support, expand or advance? It should be as precise as possible in describing and justifying the methodological strategies employed. Exactly how did the knowledge being reported come to be known and are there any limitations that could be noted about the chosen method of inquiry? And finally, work published in Social Problems should help us understand the social world in ways that could be useful to those who would improve it. 0037-7791 Quarterly 3500 1952 Print & Online Becky Pettit (through June 1, 2012) University of Washington, Department of Sociology, Box 353340, Seattle, WA 98195-3340 Collective Behavior/Social Movements, Community and Urban Sociology, Crime/Law/Deviance, Economic Sociology, Environment and Technology, Family, Organizations/Occupations/Work, Political Sociology, Racial and Ethnic Minorities, Sex and Gender Comparative/Cross Cultural, Historical, Qualitative Empirical Research, Quantitative, Theoretical Mail: Email: Online: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ucpress-sp Average manuscript length (pages): 48 Style: American Sociological Association Disk required for mail submissions: Submission fee: Yes $25 Page charges: Complimentary copies to authors: Yes (2) Manuscripts received annually: 350 Acceptance rate (percentage): 8 Average review time (in weeks): 14 Production lag (in months): 8 Members: $120 Individuals: $196 Institutions: $196

Societies Without Borders: Human Rights and the Social Sciences (SWB) brings scholars from different continents closer together by showing their different approaches of the same research material, especially human rights and public goods. Many scholars from developing countries, paradoxically, have utopian ideas that they pursue, whereas progressive US scholars, for example, are more engaged in criticism. SWB aims at bridging this gap. But there is more to it: SWB also aims at breaking down the walls between the disciplines of Social Sciences, Human Rights (as formulated in the international standards of the UN- related organizations), Environmental Sciences, and the Humanities. Next to the work of scholars, SWB includes articles by activists, teachers, and practitioners who understand the importance of collaborative efforts to affect and study change, for the dissemination of knowledge, and for case-based prototypes.

SM provides a natural forum for engaging the philosophical issues that underpin sociological research. Papers published in SM may be original methodological contributions, expositions and illustrations of recent developments, and critical discussions of research practice. Sociological Perspectives
Journal Website: Publisher/Sponsor: Publisher/Sponsor Website: Mission/Aim: http://www.ucpressjournals.com/journal.asp?j=sop University of California Press http://www.ucpress.edu/ Sociological Perspectives is a high quality general interest journal published by the Pacific Sociological Association, with a long tradition of printing articles that deal with sociology's many substantive areas of inquiry. Established in 1957 and heralded as "always intriguing" by one critic, Sociological Perspectives is intensely peer- reviewed and well edited. The journal seeks to publish articles that have a high probability of being widely read, used, and cited. Preference is given to articles that are of general interest and resonate with sociologists from a range of sub- disciplinary specialties in ways that captures their imagination, informs their work, and ultimately advances the accumulation of knowledge about social processes. The University of California Press publishes Sociological Perspectives quarterly. Authors who are interested in submitting manuscripts to the journal should review the publication policies and information for authors regarding new submissions and preparation of manuscripts at: http://www.ucpressjournals.com/journal.asp? j=sop&jDetail=submit. 0731-1214 Quarterly 1100 1957 Print & Online James R. The ideal Compass article is an intervention in the field or sub-field, showing its present state and direction in the future. While our authors are leading researchers, we do not publish detailed primary research but rather an author s position on the field or sub-field. As a Compass article must be accessible to international and interdisciplinary scholars, teachers, and interested readers, we call it research with a public face. Sociology Compass articles allow scholars and advanced students to: keep up with new developments and trends in research, teach in a new or unfamiliar area outside of their speciality, and ensure that students are exposed only to quality-controlled online content (as opposed to unvalidated content from search engines). 1751-9020 Monthly 2006 Online Joel Best, Scott R Harris, Alison Bianchi, Ron Jacobs, Kathryn Feltey, Julian Matthews, Ira Silver (through December 31, 2012) 9600 Garsington Road, Oxford, OX4 2DQ United Kingdom Collective Behavior/Social Movements, Communication and Information, Crime/Law/Deviance, Culture, Economic Sociology, Family, Organizations/Occupations/Work, Political Sociology, Racial and Ethnic Minorities, Sex and Gender Review of Literature Mail: Email: Online: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/soco Average manuscript length (pages): 19 Style: Harvard Disk required for mail submissions: Submission fee: $ Page charges: Complimentary copies to authors: Yes (12) Manuscripts received annually: 120 Acceptance rate (percentage): 95 Average review time (in weeks): 10 Production lag (in months): 2 Members: $31 Individuals: $75 Institutions: $1159 Sociological Abstracts http://www.csa.com/factsheets/socioabs-set-c.php http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)1751-9020

Teaching Sociology
Journal Website: Publisher/Sponsor: Publisher/Sponsor Website: Mission/Aim: http://tso.sagepub.com/ American Sociological Association www.asanet.org Teaching Sociology publishes articles, notes, and reviews intended to be helpful to the discipline's teachers. The general intent is to share theoretically stimulating and practically useful information and advice with teachers. Articles range from experimental studies of teaching and learning to broad, synthetic essays on pedagogically important issues. Notes focus on specific teaching issues or techniques. Teaching Sociology publishes several types of papers. The basic distinction is between articles and notes. Generally, articles are longer than notes (about 25 pages long), more analytical, contain an extensive literature review and data analysis. Notes are shorter (usually 15 pages or less), contain a shorter literature review, and present and assess a teaching technique. The distinction reflects the dual purposes of the journal: 1) to provide a forum for analyzing the scholarship of teaching and learning in sociology, and 2)as a forum for the exchange of specific teaching ideas. 0092-055X Quarterly 2296 1973 Print & Online Dr. Kathleen S. We seek contributions that reflect the dynamic, transnational, and contested conditions of the social worlds, and work that pushes the boundaries of discipline and genre. The publication interrogates the contemporary and historical construction of social inequities based on race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, nationality and other invidious distinctions. We remain committed to publishing material that generates dialogues among communities of scholars, activists, artists, and the people with whom they work. We invite the submission of research articles for peer review, as well as short commentaries, research reports, review essays, interviews, and other innovative formats.
