William Faulkner was well known for his complex style of writing.

In his opinion, all human actions are not well structured and explainable. Hence, literature should also be like this. Barn Burning is one of his piece literatures, which proudly fall under modern literature. Moreover, the author introduces us with one modern technique called stream of conscious in this short story. According to J. A Cuddens Dictionary of literature terms and literary theory stream of conscious is a literary term and which depict the multitudinous thoughts and pass through the mind. Another phrase for it is interior monologue. Barn Burning is a story of Northern American young boy and his family. In this story the author depict a very traditional father-son relationship at the begging but later we see the protagonist is emerging as an individual. Moreover, the father of the protagonist Abner Snopes is very complex and holds rage towards the society, which partly explains his fairy works. Lastly, I will try to figure out why Sartoris is alienated from his family. Northern America is basically based on agriculture. Thus, most of her man is poor farmer and landowner. Moreover, they practice the culture of large family with handful of children, in order to give a hand to their father in farming. In Barn Burning Abner Snopes is a poor farmer and the protagonist Sartoris is his youngest son. At the begging of the story we see Sartoris has a sense of loyalty towards his father. In the begging paragraph the author says He could not see the table where the Justice sat and before which his father and his father's enemy (our enemy he thought in that despair; ourn! mine and hisn both! He's my father!) stood, but he could hear them, the two of them that is, because his father had said no word yet: This long line depicts that he was conditioned for a long time to think, the way his father think of others. Therefor, Sartoris was influenced by his father like a typical son would be. Moreover, except from the last part of the story, Saroris was consistently obeyed by his father. However, he was not fully sure of his fathers righteousness. For instance, Sartoriss monologue when the judge called him as a witness, he thought He aims for me to lie, he thought, again with that frantic grief and despair. And I will have to do hit. These lines clearly express that, he knew his father had done something wrong, but at the same time he cannot think of going against his father. Furthermore, his father always reminds Sartoris that he needs to be loyal to his family. One their journey to the new the place, they where moving, his father told him with a still voice You're getting to be a man. You got to learn. You got to learn to stick to your own blood or you ain't going to have any blood to stick to you. Like every father Abner is also teaching his son the value of family and what consequences he might face if he ever betray his family. At the later part of the story when Abner sued his master for charging his extra bushes,

Sartoris thought his father was again charged with Barn burning and to save his father he cried to the judge He ain't done it! He ain't burnt This behave of him proves that he is protective about his family. However, the very last of the story show us that the father-son relationship takes another turn. Starious is not ready anymore to choose his father over the wrong doings. In order to save his family from further trouble and stopping injustice towards Major de Spain he rebels and try to inform other about his fathers upcoming crime. Abner Snopes is an ambiguous character and for this reason all his fiery works are not easily explainable. The things that motivate him are quite complicated. Abner is stubborn and he doesnt do anything ordered by someone else. For example, Mr.Harris gave him a spool of wire to make fence and keep his hog within it but he didnt pay any hid to this. Moreover, before burning Mr.Harris barn, he sends Harris a massage by his nigger. Therefor we can say he is very despicable and arrogant. Moreover, he has some issue with the society. For some reason, he thinks the society is completely unjust with him. Therefor, after getting the verdict of leaving the country he says, I aim to. I don't figure to stay in a country among people who Furthermore, those unprinted word explains a lot, it express the rage and hatred towards the society. Therefor, burning barn and making the people suffer gives him pleasure. In addition to that, by burning barn he takes revenge out of his personal enemies. As soon as Major de Spain charged him extra bushes for running the carpet, Abner counted him in in the enemy list. In order to rune his livestock he burnt his barn. The protagonist Sartoirs has evolved through out the story. Like every child he considers his father his hero. He supports his father but not so devotedly as his elder brother. Since little sense of right and wrong are growing inside him. This time the sense grown so strong that, he decided to rabble. By informing Spain about his fathers upcoming fairy crime he declared his individuality. His mother and Aunt have also this sense but what makes Sartoris alienated from them is he did something to stop the mess and they did not. In a nutshell, the political situation and war has also play a huge rule in order to make Abner so bizarre and unexplainable. Moreover Sartoris was also a bit different from rest of family. Thus the father-son relationship was also become abnormal.
