(HONOURS)
The Commerce program at UOIT has been developed to enhance your
understanding of key business functions and current systems technologies,
preparing you to succeed in a specialized field such as accounting,
e-commerce, finance, marketing or human resources management.
During the first two years of the Bachelor of Commerce program you
will begin with a common program of study and learn from simulations,
teamwork and case study analyses. All of this combined will help you
develop a solid understanding of all aspects of commerce, as well as
giving you the flexibility to explore your interests in a specific area.

ACCOUNTING
The Accounting major meets all of the requirements of the three professional
accounting designations – certified general accountants (CGA), certified
management accountants (CMA) and chartered accountants (CA). To help
ensure you have the skills and abilities necessary for success in your
professional exams and careers, UOIT’s accounting courses are very
demanding. Graduates with a major in Accounting can expect to pursue
career paths in the financial and banking sectors.

BRIDGE PROGRAM
If you have completed a two- or three-year Computer Systems Technology
diploma program or related programs at an Ontario community college
you will be considered for admission to UOIT’s Information Technology
Bridge program and may be eligible to receive up to 45 transfer credits.

INTERNSHIP
PROGRAM
Internship opportunities are available to you after completing all courses
in your program up to and including third year. Obtaining internship
placements is competitive and you must have a minimum B+ average or
cumulative 3.3 GPA to be eligible.
Internship placements equate to 560 hours of progressive experience on
a full- or part-time basis. Successful work placement completion and final
report submission result in both a grade and six credits toward your
program’s degree requirements.
This program offers you the opportunity to engage in a contracted learning
partnership with businesses in Durham Region and around the globe. You
are given the opportunity to apply classroom concepts to the challenges
of organizational life and gain valuable, relevant work experience to
promote networking and lifelong career success.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
UOIT expects students applying for admission to undergraduate bachelor programs to present at minimum:
:: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with a minimum of six 4U or 4M credits or equivalent or mature applicant status*; and
:: Credits, courses and minimum grades to satisfy the academic prerequisites of specific programs.
The specific average or standing required for admission varies from year-to-year. Student selection is determined through consideration of a wide range
of criteria including school marks, distribution of subjects taken and performance in subjects relevant to the academic program. Possession of minimum
requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Due to space limitations, preference will be given to applicants with the best qualifications.

HOW TO
APPLY
Apply for all UOIT programs through the Ontario Universities’ Application
Centre (OUAC) at www.ouac.on.ca. You can apply to up to three programs at
UOIT for a base application fee of $115 for Ontario high school students.
The deadline to apply is Wednesday, January 13, 2010 for Ontario secondary
students, while the deadlines for non-Ontario secondary students and all
required admissions documentation is Friday, April 30, 2010.
