Week 2 Lesson: 3 Day: 3 Objective: The groups will be using the technology tools they used to compile information

on their life cycle to begin to create an artistic model of each life cycle. The model will then be used to create an Animoto video presentation. Content Standards: Common Core standards: RI.2.3 Describe the connection between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text. W.2.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section. W.2.6 With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. W.2.7 Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations). SL.2.5 Create audio recordings of stories or poems; add drawings or other visual displays to stories or recounts of experiences when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings. SL.2.6 Produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification. (See grade 2 Language standards 1 and 3 for specific expectations.) California State Content Standards Life Science 2a. Students know the sequential stages of life cycles are different for different animals, such as butterflies, frogs, and mice. Technology standards: 1. Creativity and Innovations c. Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues 2. Communication and Collaboration a. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media b. Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats 3. Research and Information Fluency b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media d. Process data and report results 5. Digital Citizenship b. Exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity

6. Technology Operations and Concepts b. Select and use applications effectively and productive. Materials: iPad Paper App https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/paper-by-fiftythree/id506003812?mt=8 Glue Scissors Raw beans Beads Raw pasta Colored Paper Colored Pipe cleaner Instructional Directions: 1. As a whole group begin explaining to students that they will be creating an art model of their groups life cycle. They will get to use different provided material to create each stage of their life cycle. 2. Show students a sample model. Explain to students that each stage will be completed on a different piece of colored paper. The number of colored paper will depend on the amount of stages in each cycle. They will have to add one extra page for their title page. 3. Students will be directed to the material tables and will have to select one group member at a time to visit the table to collect materials. Explain they need to be aware of the students around them and to be polite when gathering materials. Explain the different materials they get to choose from, beads, dried pasta, raw beans, colored pipe cleaner, glue, colored paper, scissors. They can use these materials in any way they want to best display each stage. 4. Once the initial directions are given students can begin by discussing what materials they think will work best for their life cycle model. They can then choose one group member at a time to begin collecting materials. 5. Once the groups have some of their materials they can begin putting their models together. They should be able to use their sketch of the stages of the life cycle to begin putting together their project. 6. The students will then select one group member to be the photographer. This member will take a picture of the title page and each consecutive stage with the iPad. They will save the photos to the camera roll. 7. They will have the rest of Science to complete this portion of the art project and photography.
