1) Why is motivating relevant to the job of the manager? - Because the job of the manager is to motivate their subordinates to work hard and have a good performance in their job, and the managers also encourage their subordinates in times of hard situations to do their work forwardly and no hesitation to do their jobs. 2) Compare and contrast the Need hierarchy, the two factor theory and Mcgellands theory of motivation in what ways are they similar or different - The need hierarchy concept has some weaknesses, and still it could be used by executive because it deals on individuals . the physiological needs must be satisfied before other needs become important. Second, even if the need is satisfied it still remains the dominant motivator if the next need in the hierarchy cannot be satisfied. In the ERG concept if a person has satisfied his relatedness need but is frustrated in his growth needs, his desire for relatedness needs is still strong. While the need hierarch concept a satisfied need is no longer a motivator. - The ERG concept is different from the need hierarchy in two ways 1st the notion of prepotency is not fixed in the ERG concept, existence needs do not necessarily be satisfied first before the need for relatedness and growth arises, if the existence needs are not satisfied the desire fore those may be stronger than for the two, other need of relatedness . While Mcgellands theory focuses on the need for achievement and affiliation and power. 3) When Maslow Insinuated that needs are hierarchial what foes he mean? - The concept proposes that people are motivated by their desire to satisfy specific needs, physiological needs- these are the basic needs to survive Safety and Security-these needs to concern the protection of individuals to be safe and security Social and belongingness needs- acceptance by other people Esteem Needs- self respect and self worth. Self-actualization needs- this is the highest need and it covers the desire to fulfill ones potential, skills and abilities. 4) Assume that you are a manager of a large fast food outlet. How could the hierarchy of needs theory help you motivate the various individuals who work for you? - According to Maslows needs theory 1st of all to know their needs and desire, and protect them from threats and danger, and to know what is their affection and to know their background and attitude, especially even though Im their boss I will respect them, and as a manager I want to know there potential abilities and skills
