B. These are activities that aim to get the students attention and prepare them to listen to the story. These activities can introduce the students to new vocabulary in the story or new characters in the story. These activities ensure students current knowledge is explored and built upon.

A. These activities ensure the students are focused, engaged and enjoying the storytelling. They also aim to increase students comprehension of the story and vocabulary. They can motivate all students to practice listening to the teacher when the teacher is speaking English.

C. These activities allow the teacher to check the students understanding and comprehension of the story and vocabulary. These activities also allow students to freely use English in a fun and creative way. They can encourage students to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Activity 2 Show the book cover to students and ask some of the following questions: What do you think this story is about? What can you see on the book cover? Who do you think are the main characters in the book? What will happen to the characters in the story? Younger children may answer in their first language.

Activity 5 Before reading the book to students teach some of the new vocabulary in the story, you do not need to pre-teach every new word, only the words which are crucial to understanding the story. Other new words in the story children may be able to work out for themselves using context and discussion after the reading.

Activity 1 The teacher reads the story in a fun, exciting and interesting way, the teacher keeps the pace steady, with a sense of drama, using gestures and voices to make meaning clear and not stopping to recite or chant new vocabulary. The teacher has fun telling the story and maintains eye contact and ensures whole group is attentive.

Activity 4 The teacher tells the story in an interesting, fun and exciting way, while the teacher is telling the story each student has pictures of the characters in the story in front of them. When the character in the story is talking they hold the correct picture in the air.

Activity 6 Students use paper and pens to make simple masks of the characters in the story. They then retell the story in groups using the masks as props to help.

Activity 7 The students make mini books using paper and pens. The students retell the story they have learnt using their own words and pictures in the mini books, they can then be displayed in the classroom.

Activity 3 Students sing a song which is some way connected to the story that they have listened to. For example if the story has a duck in it students can sing Five little ducks went swimming.
