Steel Step Barrier

The Steel Step Barrier (SSB) is a high performance steel barrier system for permanent installations, which matches the profile and offers comparable performance to the Concrete Step Barrier (CSB). SSB can be used as a stand alone installation, connected to other barrier systems, or can be used in conjunction with CSB or other barrier systems to provide emergency crossing points (ECPs), maintenance crossing points (MCPs), lightweight barrier over structures or complex arrangements at movement joints. Slotted hole barrier connector plates allow for thermal and mechanical movement of the barrier over structures .

The standard SSB profile is 540mm wide at the base and 900mm high. The system offers H2 Containment Level and W2 Working Width. Each barrier section is 5450mm long with a mass of approximately 822kg (151kg/m). Each barrier section has an integral anchor plate which facilitates anchoring to the road surface and each barrier section bolts to adjacent sections. The Wide Steel Step Barrier (WSSB) profile is 940mm wide at the base and 900mm high. Each barrier section is 5450mm long with a mass of approximately 998kg. The barrier sections are installed as above. Connection Pieces to CSB are 500mm long and are supplied with slotted hole connector plates. The Half Step Steel Barrier (HSSB) offers H2 Containment Level and W1 Working Width when mounted on a raised concrete plinth. The barrier is 370mm deep from front face to rear face of the post. Each barrier section is 5330mm long with a mass of approximately 470kg (88kg/m). The barrier sections are mounted on 4 vertical steel posts per section, each post being fixed to the concrete plinth via an anchor plate. Each barrier section is bolted to adjacent sections. The HSSB can be installed as a stand alone barrier or attached to other barrier systems with special connection pieces.

The Demountable Steel Step Barrier (DSSB) is based on the SSB with two wheel assemblies per 5450mm barrier section. The system offers H2 Containment Level and W2 Working Width. A 22800mm clear opening can be removed in less than 30 minutes. These systems are fully approved and included in the HA list of Approved Road Restraint Systems
