To: From: Date: February 7, 2014 Subject: CCTV America China Central Television (CCTV) is the predominant state television broadcaster in mainland China. Headquartered in Beijing with a sister broadcast center in Nairobi, Kenya, CCTV is accessible to more than one billion viewers and broadcasts 45 channels, having the largest number of television subchannels in the world (22 free, 23 pay-vision). CCTV America is the American division of CCTV News that began broadcasting on Feb. 6, 2012. It is a duel-platform provider, offering programming in both Web and TV formats. According to its website, CCTV Americas mission is to provide English-speaking viewers everywhere a different way to see the world by simply covering more of it. It is based in Washington, D.C., and manages bureaus across North and South America including New York, San Francisco, Houston, Miami, Chicago, Toronto, Mexico City, Havana, Bogota, Rio De Janeiro, San Paolo, Buenos Aires and Lima. The service employs a mix of American, international and Chinese journalists and produces Americasbased programming with a focus on Asia. According to its website, CCTV America provides an interactive TV viewing experience and reproduces, reprocesses and fragments traditional TV programming resources as well as producing and disseminating original Internet programs. CCTV America is directed by Ma Jing and its executive consultant is journalist Jim Laurie. Mike Walter, Anand Naidoo, Elaine Reyes and Phillip TK Yin comprise its D.C. anchor team, in addition to Michelle Makori in New York. Its primary broadcast programs include: Biz Asia America: Two hours of global news and analysis that combines reporting of economic and financial issues in North and South America with those from China and Asia. Broadcast Monday through Friday from 9 10 pm Eastern. The Heat: Weekly news and current affairs show that features global affairs discussions. Airs Saturdays from 8:30 - ? pm Eastern. Americas Now: In-depth stories from Central and South America produced by former 60 Minutes producer Barbara Dury. Airs Sundays from 8:30 - ? pm. General News: Breaking news from around the world with emphasis on North and South America. Airs Saturdays and Sundays at 7, 8 and 9 pm. Its North American correspondents include the following:
