-Relationships between angles and arcs in a circle There are many different kinds of angle in circles. There is the central angle inscribed angle tangent-chord angle the angle that is formed inside the circle by two intersecting chords or the angle that is formed outside the circle using either two tangents two secants or one tangent and one secant. !any angles ha"e different properties when it comes to the arcs. #or a central angle the central angle is e$ual to the intercepted arc. #or an inscribed angle the inscribed angle is e$ual to half of the intercepted arc. #or a tangent-chord angle the angle is always e$ual to half of the intercepted angle. #or the angle formed inside the circle by two intersecting chords the angle is e$ual to the half of the sum of the intersected arcs. %hen the angle is formed outside of the circle with two tangents two secants or a tangent and a secant the angle is half of the difference of the intercepted arcs.

-Relationships of angles formed by intersecting chords tangents and secants #or a central angle the angle is formed by two intersecting radii so that the "erte& is at the center of the circle. #or an inscribed angle the "erte& is on the circle and is formed by two intersecting chords. #or a tangent-chord angle the angle is formed by an intersecting tangent and chord and the angle has its "erte& on the circle. #or the angle that is inside the circle it is formed by by two chords that intersect inside the circle and four angles are formed. #or the outside angle formed by two tangents the angle is formed by two tangents intersecting outside of the circle. %hen the outside angle is formed by two secants the secants intersecct outside of the circle but also intersect the circle. %hen the outside angle is formed by a tangent and a secant the tangent and secant intersect outside of the circle but the secant intersects the circle as well. -'engths of tangent segments secant segments and chords

(f two chords intersect in a circle the product of the lengths of the segments of one chord e$ual the product of the segments of the other chord. (f two secant segments are drawn to a circle from the same e&ternal point the product of the length of one secant segment and its e&ternal part is e$ual to the product of the length of the other secant segment and its enternal part. And if a secant segment and tangent segment are drawn to a circle from the same e&ternal point the product of the length of the secent segment and its e&ternal part e$uals the s$uare of the length of the tangent segment. -E$uation of a circle The standard form e$uation of a circle is a way to e&press the defintion of a circle on a coodinate plane. )n a coordinate plane the formlua is *&-h+,- . *y-k+,- / r,-. 0 and k are the & and y coordinated of the center of a circle. #or e&ample1 *&-2+,- . *y-3+,- / 4 is a circle centered at *2 3+ and its radius is -.
