Introduction
Cloud computing is defined as computing, processing, storing data of a client machine on virtual servers available over cloud of networks. Virtual server do not physically exist, they move around, can be scaled up or down, fly without affecting the end user like a cloud. 5. Large organization wont need to buy individual licenses for employees instead they can pay metered fee to cloud company hosting the required software. 6. Software updating, diagnostic and repair can be done on the cloud instead of individual machines.
Structure
Cloud computing operating environment can be divided in to two, the front end and the back end. They connect to each other through a network usually an internet. Front end - User machine with interface software (mostly a web browser). Back end - Cloud which include Various computers, data centers, data storage systems etc
Disadvantage
Since data are stored remotely and accessed via internet, security and privacy becomes the major concern. Advanced encryption techniques and various level of authentication for users will secure the information from data theft.
Advantages
1. The hardware requirements on the front end can be minimized and data can be accessed from anywhere. 2. With help of Server Virtualization, it is possible to run multiple virtual servers in a single machine, with each server allocated for a definite application. Since these super machines are interconnected as a network, it is possible to move the servers from one machine to another which enables load sharing and provides efficient usage of these datacenters. 3. It is also possible to duplicate a virtual server running a single task on more than one machine for maintaining redundancy in the cloud.
Conclusion
In automotive industry, cloud computing will stand as an effective way for global product development, analysis in virtual environment, sharing the ideas globally and integration of heterogeneous operating systems.
