ABRAGAN 1. Atonic - lack of muscle tone. 2.

Atrophy - wasting or decrease in size of a body organ, tissue, or part owing to disease, injury, or lack of use 3. Arthrocentesis - removal of fluid from a joint by centesis 4. Arthrogram - a test using X-rays to obtain a series of pictures of a joint after a contrast material (such as a dye, water, air, or a combination of these) has been injected into the joint 5. Arthroscopy - a minimally invasive operation to repair a damaged joint; the surgeon examines the joint with an arthroscope while making repairs through a small incision 6. Ankylosis - stiffening and immobility of a joint as the result of disease, trauma, surgery, or abnormal bone fusion. 7. Arthritis - painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints. 8. Bursa - a fluid-filled sac or saclike cavity, esp. one countering friction at a joint. 9. Bone scan - a nuclear scanning test to find certain abnormalities in bone. 10. Calcification - deposition of calcium salts within the matrix of cartilage often as the preliminary step in the formation of bone 11. Callus - a thickened and hardened part of the skin or soft tissue, esp. in an area that has been subjected to friction. 12. Cancellous bone light, porous bone enclosing numerous large spaces that give a h oneycombed or spongy appearance.

13. Cartilage - firm, whitish, flexible connective tissue found in various forms in the larynx and respiratory tract, in structures such as the external ear, and in the articulating surfaces of joints. 14. Caroal tunnel syndrome - a painful condition of the hand and fingers caused by compression of a major nerve where it passes over the carpal bones through a passage at the front of the wrist, alongside the flexor tendons of the hand. 15. Compartment syndrome - a condition resulting from increased pressure within a confined body space, esp. of the leg or forearm. 16. Clonus - muscular spasm involving repeated often rhythmic, contractions.
BUNA 34. External fixators external metal frame attached to bone fragments to stabilize them 35. Joint area where bones ends meet; provides for motion and flexibility 36. Joint capsule fibrous tissue that encloses none ends and other joint surfaces 37. Kyphosis increase in the convex curvature of the spine 38. Lamellae mature compact bone structures that form concentric rings of bone matrix; lamellar bone 39. Ligament fibrous band connecting bone 40. Lordosis increase in lumbar curvature of the spine 41. Ossification process in which minerals (calcium) are deposited in bone matrix 42. Osteoarthritisdegeneration of joint cartilage and the underlying bone, most common from middle age onward. It causes pain and stiffness, esp. in the knee, hip and thumb joints 43. Osteoblast bone forming cell 44. Osteoclast bone resorption cell 45. Osteocyte mature bone cell 46. Osteogenesis bone formation 47. Osteoidthe unmineralized organic component of bone 48. Osteon microscopic functional unit of bone 49. Osteoporosis medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue, typically as a result of hormonal changes, or deficiency of calcium or Vit. D 50. Paralysis complete of partial loss of function esp. when involving the power of motion or of sensation in any part of the body CANAVERAL 51. Paresthesia abnormal sensation (eg burning, tingling, numbness) 52. Periosteum fibrous connective tissue covering bone 53. Remodeling process that ensures bone maintenance through simultaneous bone resorption and formation 54. Resorption removal/destruction of tissue, such as bone 55. Red bone marrow

GUINTA 68. Bursitis- inflammation of a fluid-filled sac in a joint 69. Contractures- abnormal shortening of muscle or fibrosis of joint structures 70. Involucrum- new bone growth around a sequestrum 71. Radiculopathy - disease of a nerve root 72. Sciatica -sciatic nerve pain; pain travels down back of thigh into foot 73. Sequestrum- dead bone in abscess cavity 74. Tendinitis- inflammation of muscle tendons 75. Tendon-cord of fibrous tissue connecting muscle to bone 76. Yellow bone marrow-bone marrow that is yellow with fat; found at the ends of long bones in adults 77. Allograft- tissue harvested from a donor for use in another person 78. Amputation- removal of a body part, usually a limb or part of a limb 79. Arthoscope -surgical scope injected into the joint to examine or repair 80. Autograft- tissue harvested from one area of the body and used for transplantation to another area of the same body 81.
