Senior Picture Tips

Guys - Wear the colors and outfits you feel best in. For more traditional studio portraits, a suite or sport coat with a tie is good. Medium to dark sweaters photograph well. For casual and outdoor photos, comfort is the rule. A nice pair of jeans or khakis look great. Shorts are not recommended. Girls - Wear the colors and outfits you feel best in. Dresses and sweaters are good for a more traditional look. Bright colors, skirts, jeans or shorts look good for casual portraits. If youre selfconscious about your arms, avoid sleeveless or very short sleeves if possible. We give you unlimited wardrobe changes, so bring a lot of options! This will also give us options for matching your outfits to your surroundings and backdrops. Be aware of your undergarments with your outfits. You should wear neutral colors that will not show through and be careful of straps under your tops. Plan on changing quickly. The faster you change, the more time we will have to photograph and the more choices of images you will have. Avoid stripes and plaids. Solid, darker colors photograph much better. Bring a variety of colors and styles. Some should be dressy and others casual. If youre comfortable in dresses, bring them! They photograph well and offer a nice variety from your casual choices. Jewelry- Keep it simple. Big, shiny jewelry can distract from the important subject, you. If you have different jewelry for different outfits, you may want to put each set in a plastic baggie and hang it on the hanger with that outfit. Shoes -Shoes should complement your clothing. We do recommend heels-they photography well and are flattering. Bring a variety of heels and flats. We may suggest bare feet for some poses. Hair- Hair styling should be appropriate to the clothing selected. Avoid new hairstyles or having your hair cut or permed the week before your portrait session. Bring any hair accessories you may need to coordinate with your outfits you may also want to bring a brush and hairspray for the windy outdoor shots. Make Up - Makeup for photographs should be slightly heavier than normal. However, too much makeup tends to give that painted look, and too little might not show off your features. A translucent powder is helpful to eliminate shine. Nails - Please don't forget the importance of your hands in your portraits. Whether you choose to do your nails yourself or have them manicured, keep them clean and use coordinating colors. Try to avoid bring colors-neutral colors will work well with all outfit choices. Facial Hair - Make sure that you are clean-shaven before your session. Retouching can hide blemishes but cannot fix razor stubble. Glasses - If you wear glasses most of the time, you'll want to wear them in your portraits. To eliminate glare or reflections, bring empty frames or remove the lenses from your glasses-ask your eye doctor if they will loan you a similar pair without the lenses.
