Laughter & Drama Strike Sleepless Night Miami Beach


-- Many Theatrical Events take the Stage at the All-Night Event --

Miami Beach, FL – The entire city is a stage on the Audi Sleepless Night, Miami
Beach’s free, 13-hour, dusk-til-dawn, citywide celebration of the arts, begins at 6:00
p.m. on Saturday, November 7. From full-length plays in English and Spanish to short
stand-up comedy routines, this year’s event includes a wide variety of theatrical
programming among the unforgettable arts and entertainment experiences presented
for all tastes and all ages, all night long, all for free.

BYRON CARLYLE THEATER (Limited seating – first come, first served)

Teatro en Miami “As es si asi os parece”


7:00 p.m.
Teatro en Miami fills the niche for Spanish-language theater in Miami. From their black-
box studio in Little Havana, they perform plays in Spanish with English subtitles. The
group will perform “Asi es si asi os parece” (Right you are, If you think you are), the story
of an unconventional family thrown into a small town of nosy and judgmental

Ground Up & Rising “The Pillowman”


9:00 p.m.
Ground Up and Rising has been called “Miami’s youngest, scrappiest, and, potentially,
most thought provoking theater company.” (Brett O’Bourke, The Miami Herald) They’ll
perform Martin McDonagh’s Tony award winner, The Pillowman. The excitement
continues outside the theater with elaborately costumed stilt-performances and fire

NORTH SHORE PARK YOUTH CENTER

Pablo Cano’s Musical Marionettes


7:00 p.m. (Limited seating – first come, first served)
Miami-based artist Pablo Cano creates a dream-like one-man show inspired by 1920s
New York vaudeville. His seven marionette “stars,” created from a bizarre array of
discarded objects like broken clocks and teacups, sing and dance to famous American
popular songs played on a vintage 1950s record player. Audiences of all ages will be
amazed and amused by Pablo, Fred Ascare, Lady Telephone, Matilda Hippo and the

Musical Miracles “In the Heights”
Two shows: 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
27 young performers from the Miracle Theatre’s musical theater program perform
selections from the Tony Award-winning musical.

NORTH BEACH BAND SHELL

Miami Lyric Opera “La Traviata”


7:00 p.m.
Miami Lyric Opera brings the opera to the public with their production of the Giuseppe
Verdi opera, “La Traviata” with full cast and orchestra. The show will be performed
outdoors at the North Beach Band Shell. The young company, established in 2004, has

The Tweaksters

Regan Patno and Julia Snyder, The Tweaksters, are acrobats, athletes, jugglers, and
dancers and they use all their talents with a good sense of humor to delight audiences of

A Pair of Nuts
1:00 a.m.
Why spend a sleepless night alone when you could spend it with A Pair of Nuts? Yamil
Piedra and Johnny Trabanco bring you their multimedia comedy show featuring hilarious
sketches & off the wall videos. Their work has garnered them critical acclaim and
they’ve been featured on Last Call with Carson Daly, BET, MegaTV, Deco Drive and the
Discovery Channel. They’re all over the internet with viral videos like “Gayo,” “The Law
Offices of Facmee and Diaz,” “Duel” and “Chonga Chat.” DO NOT miss the madness

Industrial Teatrera “Rojo”

Riotous physical street theater from Barcelona presented by Centro Cultural Espanol.
“Rojo” is an intimate clown show for all audiences, based on a poem by Palau I Fabre
and on “The Red Tree” by Shau Tan. “Rojo” creates an imaginary refuge in the midst of

“Acts of Purpose”
10:30 p.m.
Analisa Velez, 2008 YoungArts winner in theater/spoken word, presents her original
dramatic piece about women who have been sexually assaulted, featuring Ms. Velez,

Multicultural Talent Contest
10 p.m. – Midnight
Show off the best of your culture, be it dance, poetry music (vocal or instrumental,)
magic, etc. Amateurs and professionals from all countries are welcome, and are
encouraged to perform in their native languages. Grand prize is a $500 certificate for

Sleepless Night is a sundown-to-sunrise, free arts celebration. It is produced by the City


of Miami Beach Department of Tourism and Cultural Development and Cultural Arts
Council in collaboration with every cultural organization in the city, together with private
businesses and individuals. It offers free museum admissions, indoor and outdoor art
installations and performances, architectural tours, dance (and dancing,) theater, music,
film, slam poetry, fashion shows, acrobatics, comedy and other cultural offerings, all
presented without admission charge at over 80 different venues spread throughout the
city and the 13-hour night.

Free shuttle buses with onboard arts programming connect the various zones of activity
and remote parking for the duration of the event.

The last Sleepless Night (2007) presented more than 130 arts and entertainment events
to over 100,000 residents and visitors of all ages. “It was the best multi-genre arts event
I’ve ever enjoyed here in South Florida – in over three decades!” said Ed Bell, producer
and host of WLRN 91.3FM’s “South Florida Arts Beat.” “Sleepless Night will prove to be
South Florida’s premiere annual arts extravaganza.”

The full program is available on-line at sleeplessnight.org, and will be available in printed
form at locations throughout the Greater Miami area on October 26.
