Nuclear Science Project - Customizing Presentations

You are required to create a PowerPoint presentation for your Nuclear Science
project. You will be given the final due dates of this project when confirmed with
Mrs. Ulivi, but it will most likely be sometime in November. For this assignment, you
will be required to engage in the Design Cycle. The Design Cycle is at the heart of
the MYP Computer Technology program.

Important Notes:
Mrs. Ulivi will be grading you on your Nuclear Science content.
I will be grading you on your Computer Science work (in the Design
Cycle).
Late work might be accepted, but will be penalized.

In order to complete this assignment, you will engage in all 4 stages of the Design
Cycle.

INVESTIGATE
1. You need to find at least 3 Science/Technology related presentations from
www.slideshare.net that you think are ‘professional looking’ in their design.
2. After you have found 3 ‘professional looking’ presentations, you need to
analyze the presentations. You should analyze their content. You should
write 500 words for this assignment. This needs to be in essay format, type-
written and double-spaced. This should also be uploaded onto your Google
Docs account and then shared with me at MyTeacherMrG@gmail.com. For
information on how to do a content analysis see the Content Analysis Read-
tip handout.
3. By analyzing these presentations, you should get an idea of how they are
conventionally made. After you know the conventions of a presentation, you
can then move on to the next stage of the Design Cycle!

PLANNING
1. You are to create Notes Slides in PowerPoint See the PowerPoint Read-tips
handout.
2. You are to create detailed and accurate storyboards for your ideas.
3. You should use the Presentation Storyboard handouts and design them so
that they look as close to your final presentation as you can. You should
draw the fonts, backgrounds, and images the best you can. You should
annotate any unclear images. Be sure to keep your ideas simple! Do not over
do it. For this assignment, less is more! When planning and designing your
presentation be sure to refer to the PowerPoint Read-tip handout.

CREATE
1. Now that you have finished the Investigate and Planning stages, you are
ready to begin Creating your presentation. The initial presentation will be
considered a ‘prototype’ as it is not final and you will have the opportunity to
improve it after you Evaluate your work.
2. For this stage, please refer to the PowerPoint Read-tips handout.

EVALUATION
1. This is the last stage in the Design Cycle. You are required to get feedback
on your presentations. In order to get feedback you should create a quick ‘3
to 5 question’ questionnaire that asks about the layout/design/functionality
of your presentation. Hand this out to at least 3 classmates. You should aim
to identify what works well in your presentation and what could be improved.
See the Evaluation - Questionnaire Read-tips handout.
2. Considering the feedback from your classmates, you are now to evaluate
what you think you did well with your posters and how you think you can
improve for next time.
3. You are required to write about a 500-word essay for your evaluation.
