MAIN FEATURES
Modules
SuperTarget is comprised of three program modules Proc-
ess, Column, and Site.
Process is the core program, used for energy optimi-
sation in a single process unit or group of integrated
process units:
Targeting for defning energy use, utility cost, ex-
changer area, and capital cost for New Design
and Retroft
Exchanger network design and retroft using
automated tools, fexible manual methods, and an
interactive Grid Diagram (see Design Workbench
graphic right)
Data sharing between multiple design or operating

Rapid Design and Retroft

SuperTarget has been used on a wide range of project

These benefts are realised through targeted capital invest-
ment identifed using the many targeting and network
design tools available in SuperTarget. Typical paybacks are
2-3 years, but payback time can be as low as 1 year for
simple re-piping projects.
CASE STUDY
The Petro-SIM screenshot (upper right) shows a refnery at-
mospheric distillation unit. When this data is transferred to
SuperTarget Process, the targeting techniques of Pinch Anal-
ysis calculate a potential to save 14.5 MW in the furnace
(20%).
Of these, the frst 6 MW are found automatically by Super-
Target in a retroft project involving one new exchanger and
increased area on two others.
Further retroft design proceeds in stages, producing alter-
native designs with different levels of savings and invest-
ment. One alternative increases the savings to 10.4 MW, at
a total cost of three new exchangers and two with increased
area. After that, diminishing returns make it impractical to
save more in the retroft case.
